Take the wife and kiddy with you to the RSL ,most have a play area or creche.You need to get out and meet people and im sure you'd feel much happier being together and meeting new folk.Also ,have you tried living anywere other than Gympie??Another suburb in Brissy maybe or even another State?
In relation to your child crying ,my son did it for the first 3 years of nursery in the Uk and my daughter cried every morning i dropped her at kindy here for at least a month,it used to make me feel sick leaving her but we did and now she is happy.What can we expect? we have dragged them away from every familiarity they know?? All they need is mum and dad,we have 2 kids who now love life here and i dread to think of the screams if we ever had to return to the Uk.Life will get easier and sooo much better ,hang on in there as long as you can and you'll see,,good luck

where are you from in Scotland...we are here now and on the verge of making our decision to go out there!!!! something holding me back - nerves, lack of security but now that you've done it stick it out. I moved back to Scotland 18 months ago from down south and I have not settled but yet the thought of moving to Oz is scary!!! Hubby has his own business and I am working oart time when I go back after maternity - its a good setup yet we can;t help but think lifestyle is best out there...is it a case of the grass is greener and we should stay ? What don;t you like??? your advice woudl be great./..:)

They have just started school and 2 went in screaming all week and hated it. I'm finding that the most difficult, and missing the familiarity back in the uk. From Manchester in the uk, so lots of crime. Moved for a better life for the kids, and us, but not working out like that at the moment. Only been here 6 weeks so can't give up yet, just wondered what you ended up doing?

Aussies moaning about petrol and crime. They have n't seen half of it
Petrol is 1/3 cheaper here in Oz
Crime well it makes the front page if someone is beaten up. In London it's more a case of 'only one kid got stabbed this week' Now that would be good news!
Lots of beurocracy here though!

I agree that you should give it a go otherwise you may regrett it. We moved to Queenland last year after living in the UK all our life. Sadly we had to return due to 2 family illness and deaths but we are now thinking of going back as we miss so much about it. You will find it hard at times, however you have an advantage of a ready made family and network of friends. The Aussies are so friendly you will feel at home in no time. Regarding buying I would wait until you are there and have a good look around before you make any decisions. Good luck with everything
I am a firm believer in "if it aint broke, dont fix it". Unless you have a not to be missed opportunity to come and live in Australia then dont miss it otherwise your life is what you make of it whereever you happen to be. There is nothing magical about Australia apart from the weather and even that can get on your nerves after a few years. To look forward to rain so much that you scour the bom site every day is a bit pathetic really.
If your life in UK is just fine then thank your lucky stars and work from there. The problem you will have is one that many of us in mixed marriages experiences and that is that one of you is always going to be home with friends and family and the other is not. Whilst many find that OK, I think it is actually harder than people give credit for. Sometimes even in the most stable and wonderful of marriages (35 years and counting) there can be a resentment because every Christmas and birthday (you know what I mean) one of you is there in the bosom of your family and the other never gets to share those experiences with THEIR family. Grandkids are a particular problem - there is something very sad for a child when they only see the grandparents of one side and no matter how many Skype hours you use, the other side rarely get to see them.
It is certainly something that you and your fiance need to sort out sooner rather than later! I am now stuck in Australia when I would kill to be at home with my folks. I have one son and a granddaughter in Australia and another son who is thinking of marrying an English girl and will be likely living in UK - I dont know that she would survive being isolated in Australia. My Aussie DH apparently told my mum on our wedding day that if I wasnt happy he would bring me home - ha! I sure wish she had witnesses to that conversation because he knows that I am slowly dying inside in Aus but he wont move back to UK because he says he would be unhappy.
