Hi BGJ
I think everyone who I have met felt similar in their first couple of months in Oz. It IS hard to settle in and it WILL take time. Not knowing anybody makes it difficult and everything you know being so far away just makes it worse.
But please do give it time, 2 months is nothing, it often takes longer than that to settle into a new house in the UK never mind settling in to another country! Be honest with each other about how you feel and if you are unhappy think of ways to make yourselves happier. Are you unhappy because you haven't made many friends yet? PIO is a great place to meet friends in a similar position to you. I bet if you post a thread suggesting a get-together in your area there will be a response. This is how I felt when I first arrive and having met people from PIO in Sydney I feel so much better. Are you unhappy because you feel bored? Maybe join a club or start a class together, another way to meet new people and get involved in something.
Many many people on here will understand exactly how you feel, but I really think that if you give it time you will grow to love the place. Have you read Bobcat's recent thread (I'm going to tell a story...) that shows how difficult it can be at first for people.
I hope you do settle in and make things work here, I'm sure you will get there even if it does take alittle time.
Good luck :)

BGJ - it does take time to settle. Some of us are fortunate and settled very very quickly. Some dont. We all miss family but there are different degrees of it. you can live 5 mins from family and not see them!!

My mother in law sees more of me and her son that she does her other 2 sons that live a total of 30 mins away! What does that tell ya?

Give it time, focus on the good elements, involve teh family in the UK in all your decisions and they will feel part of your life

Hi, know exactly how you feel, some days are better than others, I left behind my 2 children aged 23 and 25 and a 2 year old grandson - they didn't want to come at the moment - I don't miss UK one bit I would be stood at a bus stop in pouring rain get crushed in the rush to get on and arrive in work stressed I am now living on gold coast and everyday say how lucky we are to be here, I love it, we have been here since June this year and everyday its gets easier, still cry, still have pain in pit of stomach most days but look what you have, I am looking forward to the time my kids visit next year can't wait to show them everything there is to offer here, I would give it a bit longer and stay positive. I wish you all the luck and hope things work out well for you. kath
