Well alot of you know me by now so i need a big bucketfull of common know.
The situation is theres a been a serious developement to both of us in the house Wife and Myself.
The wife ( A Registered Nurse) has had job offers from Cairns - Townsville and Brisbane CBD. I which i`m completely gobsmacked have had a email saying i`m in line for a job in Perth and they would like to contact me about it.
Now what the hell do we do!
This is what i think (if i`m wrong please tell me)
Perth to expensive to buy a house!! Only got £30,000 to put down on house in OZ.
Brisbane CBD Mater Hospital is to busy and right in center so ruled that out (want a chill out time)
So that leaves Townsville or Cairns for Job as registered nurse!
Townsville comes with a good relocation package
Cairns does not but Cairns ive been told is prettier than Townsville
but!
Theres more of a chance of me getting a job in Townsville than in Cairns ( i`m a Manufacturing Engineer) also worked in heavey engineering sector as a planner.
So what do you think because its all coming so fast these phonecalls and emails.
We have to pick one.
We cant afford a reccie ive got 4 kids and they need me here as the wife works nights.
Please be kind with your comments i know i sound a bit of a divvy but i`m totally lost.
1..2..3..4..5..6....... there that feels better

Redoing them again as we speak....oh well!
Been offered a position in Townsville :)
Well done in getting the job offers!!! We have stayed briefly in both Cairns and Townsville when travelling, both places are a lot quieter than we imagined, with Townsville a bit more industrial, but nothing on the scale of our towns here. Make sure you do lots of research if you haven't been there before. We are heading to the Gold Coast as although there's not a 'city' there, its fairly lively, without the expense of the cities (we'd love to have moved to Sydney but its out of our league financially!!) the Gold is a happy medium for us.
Good luck!!

Hi Andy,
We've never been but friends of our moved to Perth 2 years ago and can't wait to leave, they're going to Queensland next year. Housing too high, pace too fast and too remote in Perth. That's just one persons opinion though!!
Good luck with your choice.
Sue

It seems to me that your instinct and logic are going for Townsville. So I'd say go with your gut feeling. If Townsville is the one you're leaning towards, than try and find out a bit more about it. As you say, things are moving fast and you are probably getting a bit flustered, but I'm sure once you've calmed down you will make the right choice.
Well done on all the job offers. It sounds like you are both in demand and I'm sure you'll find work where ever you choose to go.
Hi Andy,
I am new to this site but am also about to make the big move over and have done a lot of research on qld. I have a few nursing mates in Oz - your wife's skills will be in high demand where ever you land. Cairns is pretty and very 'touristy' - and is good if you work in either tourism/retail or construction. The Oz army has a v. big army contingent based in Townsville, there is a big nickel plant there and a university (if yr thinking about your young 'uns future) there is a large sugar industry up that way too. The weather in Townsville is a bit more tolerable - Cairns in the summer I heard is unbearably hot - or always raining. Hope this helps
cheers

Go with your gut is a good idea but look on the internet and surf the places you are considering.
I am an RN in Brissie. The Mater is on the southside of Brissie. You can get there from anywhere!!! Brissie is still more like a country town than a big city. We have lived here for 2 1/2 years and if it gets any more chilled out we will be in a coma! We are only 12ks from the CBD!
Personally I have had friends go to and move to Townsville and hate it but its everyones own opinions. Cairns I would say would be intolerable for heat for youngsters but again, own opinion!
Brissie is great as you are based for The Gold Coast, Sunny Coast, all the theme parks,Surfers Paradise, Zoos, everything! Im a Brissie addict!
im not the all seeing all knowing oricle, but i can give some advice on how it has made me see things more clearly ,you are in a similar situation to me and my family as in not being able to afford a reccie,or wanting to put the cost of a reccie towards the big move.
because you cant go for a reccie to oz there is no way of knowing where is going to suit you best,we have made the decision to go to australia so you have to sit down with your family and discuss your options make a decision and stick with it,dont let anyone sway your decision,or you will start to put unnecessary pressure on yourself and make your time up untill you leave complicated,if where you decide to start doesnt work out try again you cant rush into a decision once you are there take your time have a good look at your surroundings and do the reccie that we will bemissing out on,i think this way because this week i craked under the pressure i had unknowingly been putting myself under, forever on the net researching different areas changing my mind about one place and choosing another, but now we have nt decided on one particular suburb to settle but only a starting point to do our reccie whilst in australia,im not ruling out any araea until i have seen it for myself if we dont like what we see we move on to the next,if this philosephy will work who knows but i feel a lot better about going to australia and iam a lot happier now,my mind is clearer so maybe we will enjoy our time we have left in the uk while that date creeps up on you to leave, dont try and control things you cant i hope you dont think i am being an arse its just how i personally have dealt with what i see as a similar dilema good luck with your decision and i hope we can both make a success of australia
