Could any one give me any advise or tips on gaining a licence to work as a plumber when we get to oz?
I would be really greatful for any feedback.
We are heading for the gold coast area.
Thnx
Hiya
There are a few plumbers and their wives on here all trying to fing out the same information!!!!!!! Apparently its bit of a mine field getting registered and licenced once your in Oz....... and its vary's from state to state. Try looking on the Jobs & careers section there are quite a few posts about it, also I just typed in "Plumbing registration in Melbourne or Queensland in your case.........." on GOOGLE and quite a bit came up, so just look for the governing body.!!!
Good luck

Hi. We are a young family heading out to the sunshine coast in August my oh is a plumber.
We went to Brisbane in March this year and went to the plumbing licence office. They were very helpful and i think (dont quote me) it will be fine.
You need to fill in an application form (not a huge one), provide a photo and a fee and you will be granted your licence. This was for a temporary licence which is valid for 12 months. This means you can only work for someone ( a company) you can not set up on your own. I think the permanent one may be more involved but we thought we would start with the temp one and re-new once we had settled. I believe the gas side is more of a mine field. If you know any different please feel free to contact me.
Where are you heading??? and when?????:)

Hi Carolinejane,
Thnx very much for your reply, great info.
We are Leaving sunny sussex on the 6th Aug and heading for Bisbane area.
Did your oh get a chance to talk to any local plumbers?
What areas did you like the look of?
Thnx again
Hi Cal,
Cant comment on the price u got charged for your boiler as dont know what the going rates are out there.
How long have u been there?
How have you settled in and any tips?
Thnx Kev
Hi. Yes he spoke to a couple of plumbers and went to see a company to get an idea of work situation ie wages and type of work. The guys he met were nice, laid back and all said they would give him a job tomorrow!! That was good news. On the other side the wages are not brilliant. They are good for oz standards but compared to here they are not too good. Especially like my oh for those who owned a plumbing business here. But we have weighed things up. Things there are so much cheaper ie i spend £150 to £180 a week shopping here in the uk. We were doing similar shops in Australia for half that!! so when weighed up you will be on a good wage. Also they do not appear to work you as hard as here very laid back. So all in all he was impressed. Looking to live in Kawana/Buderim area not far from Mooloolaba. Travel to the city approx 1 hour. So if work sparse on the coast its not terrible to travel to the city where there was alot of work for all trades. You go on the 6th we will be going out week commencing 13th. We have not booked flights yet as waiting for house to exchange contracts first but this is the date our buyers have asked for.

Hiya Kev we have been here just over 6 mth ,bought a property in February and moved in last month. We gutted the place and did it up ,its a nightmare to get a tradey of any sort and it seems to be a general problem that theres a grave lack of skilled people around here.Hubby tells me too recommend people to go self employed and advertise in local paper as this is where most look for tradeys,,good luck with everything if you have any more questions fire away or feel free to pm,,
