Smile Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast

Hi, I am living in the UK at the minute but I've successfully been through the recruitment process with a law firm in Queensland and they are presently just checking my references so fingers crossed I'll get the job. The firm have offices all over Queensland, the main ones being in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Cairns. Ultimately I'll have to make a choice as to where I want to live. I am 29 and am moving out to Oz alone so I want to be somewhere where there is plenty to do and it is easy to meet people. Having never been to any of the above places I would really appreciate some advice from someone in the know!

Thanks in advance for your help

No problem, thanks for your advice. It seems the Gold Coast may be my best option. When I've looked into it I have always thought the Gold Coast looked more suited to me but other people say the Sunshine Coast is better. Is there still plenty to do at the Sunshine Coast for young (well 29) people like lyself?

In Australia in general to me I didn't really see what we have here in England lots of good pubs/clubs where men and women go, I felt that in Australia pubs seemed more of a mans world! Brisbane CBD had a couple of good pubs that we went to and were quite up-to date as far as Australia is concerned and had a good atmosphere. The sunshine coast has some lovely areas with some nice restaurants along the beach sides but I didn't see anywhere there that was like the Gold Coast and the Surfers Paradise region, where it is more up beat!! In saying that keep checking your post as there could be someone that lives in the Sunshine Coast that may no some up beat trendy places to go. Noosa is upmarket (well I thought so!), but still for cafe's and restaurants. I liked Brisbanes CBD and it even has its own man made beach right in the city! And if you lived there Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are easy to go to but obviously a drive away. If you live in one of the surburbs of brisbane you can always get the ferry into the CBD or a cab. There is a web page called our brisbane which is worth taking a look at.
If your thinking of working in Brisbanes CBD and then want to live Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast check the distance of the area that you choose as it could be along drive to work. I think Coalundra is probably about one hour to one and half hours away if the roads busy.

Decisions Decisions eh!

Regards
p.s. Sydney had a great place with loads of trendy bars in a sort of underpass (subway) we thought we were going under a subway and wow these fantastic bars were there with an amazing atmosphere it was right next to the Opera House!

I think I'll probably be happy enough with nice cafes and restaurants, just a bit concerned that I won't know a soul when I get there. I definitely think I'd rather live near the coast rather than actually in Brisbane, it seems that rental accommodation is much cheaper at the Sunshine Coast than in Brisbane aswell.

Thanks for the advice though. I'll keep you posted as my decisions unfold.

HIya

Hmm tricky decision for you, but still a nice decision to have to make - they are all lovely. I have spent alot of time in brisbane, sunshine coast and gold coast

it depends on what you want to do, Gold coast is fab and always full of people and the beaches are to die for. Sunshine coast is similar just without the high rises. I am 29 and moving over to towsnville all on my own, Im scared about meeting people too. But ive never had any problems making friend anywhere else so fingers crossed this will be no different. Your lucky getting the choice of a few locations to choose from, if i had my choice i think id opt for the gold coast, unfortunately i have to be in t/ville for a year before I can move.

Good luck with everything
Helen

I suppose that work is the easiest way to meet people anyway so as long as you have a job you'll be fine. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Everyone I've spoken to reckons the people are really friendly so I'm sure it will all be fine.

One of my referees has just called to tell me the firm in Oz have contacted them. I'll hopefully hear something soon.....

Just come back from the Gold Coast on a 5 day break and after living in Sydney for 7 mths, the Gold Coast sh!its over Sydney in every way possible.

The people were very friendly, the roads much better, the beach was better, the food was better, the weather was better, the houses were better.....you get my drift.

BTW I am married and have a three year old, so I'm not a teenager.
