Nerang
Hi, thinking of moving to QLD this time next year, all being well, and trying to get as much information as we can about different places to live. We went there on holiday last year and spent the first week in a campervan from Sydney to Brisbane. Stopped at some gorgeous places. Week 2 was in Coolangatta (ok, but wouldn't want to live there) and week 3 was by Advancetown. We liked Nerang and think it is quite a central location. We have friends in Wellington Point and also Cleveland. They are nice places too, but nearer to the city. We are from the edge of the Lake District and on the coast here in the UK. Seem to be leaning towards Nerang as a place to move to. I will do any job and wife is a staff nurse. Have 2 sons aged 12 and 14. Any information about this area (good and bad) would be appreciated.
There are a couple of people I work with who live at the Gold Coast and they said don't live at Nerang!!?? Don't know the suburb myself. There is a big hospital at Southport so they said to go for Arundel or Parkwood ( about a 15-20 min drive to Surfers Paradise ) ...hope this helpd
Hi, we live in Rothwell (Redcliffe) it's about 15 mins away from Nerang, closer to the sea and beaches, Redcliffe has got a lot of nice places to live, it's on a Peninsula so surrounded by the sea on 3 sides, Scarborough, Margate, Rothwell, Clontarf are all nice places and it's 30 mins away from Brisbane and only 45 mins away from the Northern Beaches which are great for surfing and relaxing, Nerang is a little further in land and more remote, it's close to the highway, it's like it's own little town, there are loads of jobs available for your wife and there are lots of Hospitals in and around Brisbane so I shouldn't worry about that, you will have to travel approx 30 mins or so to work either way. North or South. It's quiet where ever you decide to live, are kids have settled in well but they are 10 and 11 so not such a huge thing for them at that age, they love it and don't want to go back to UK, the Laggon at Redcliffe front is a good place where the older kids hang out but it's quite a long way to come from Nerang, hope this little bit of info helps, good luck where ever you end up living.
G'day from Nerang,We have been living here for the last 6 weeks and we love it here. You have everything on your doorstep. There is a local train station [40 mins to Brissi] local hospital in Southport [20 mins car or bus]. All the shops you could ever need, cinema, schools plus you are 5 mins to the Pacific highway [10 minutes to all the amusement parks]and 20 minutes to the Gold Coast. 20 minutes to the Hinterland - which if you are near the Lake District you will love [the mountains without the lakes].As with all areas there is good and bad. We are surrounded by palmtrees and gum trees and regularly have visits from parrots, kukkaburras, cockatiels and marrakeets. On the way to school every morning we drive past wild kangaroos which the kids think is fantastic.
Because Nerang is older alot of the properties are on lot larger sq meterage - so you don't have the feeling of being hemmed in.
Parkwood and Arundel are both very good as well. However we all come from different parts of the UK and what feels right for one is not right for another.
The best thing to do when you get here is to rent a holiday let and hire a car - drive around areas and get a feel for the place. Running out of space so let me know if you need anymore help. Best of luck, you won't regret the move - Jill and Darren

Thanks for that Jill and Darren,
When we were there we were quite impressed with the place. As you said the location is almost perfect for work, transport links and country side. Although you can see the beach from our house, we are not really beach people, so being near the hinterland is more of a draw for us. Got to admit (although I'll get slagged off for this) we did find Surfers Paradise at bit tacky, We didn't realy know what to expect when we got there, but because it's world famous we thought it would be something special. A modern, cleaner version of Blackpool springs to mind. If you don't mind, nearer our departure time we'll get in touch and see if you still like it, or can offer any tips.
Thanks
