I think it gets light around 4 or 5 am (normally asleep but been told) and it goes dark really quickly around 6pm,tv is pretty rubbish but you do find things of interest ,i think the main reason for going to bed early is lots of tradesmen start around 5am so need their beauty sleep!!!

Also dont know about the UK but here the streets are very busy early with cyclists, runners, surfers etc getting their fix in before they have to get out for work. So for me anyway if I'm at at 5am and out running ro cycling come 8pm I am starting to wilt.

It never ceases to amaze me how early people get up here and start their day - when we used to take our puppy to obedience classes in Centennial Park (Sydney) the place was packed with joggers, cyclists, walkers all out and about well before 8am. People here seem to start their days much earlier than we do in UK and I have to say since I've been here I have been getting up much earlier than I would ever have dreamed of in UK as the weather has been sunny from early on although that might change once winter comes and the mornings don't look so appealing. However, I haven't got into the habit of going to bed early yet, still stay up just as late as I would in UK so consequently my day is a long one.....

Hi all

Just to add to what everyone else has said...

I check the weather for Melbourne quite often (much more often than I need to!) on www.bbc.co.uk/weather. It not only gives you a full five-day forecast, but also gives you each day's sunrise and sunset times.

Cheers,

Rachel:)
