I am in the process of a sponsored visa job application- moving from rather cloudy Yorkshire to sunny Queensland- the firm I hope to work for (if I get the role-fingers crossed!) has offices throughout Queensland from Cairns to Brisbane.
I will be heading to Oz without family and would therefore appreciate any hints/guidance/comments of towns/cities which are particularly friendly and safe for people (ie single female) coming alone and which places have the best transportation and general facilities, including night life....I am trying to avoid the british style commute on cramped public transport!
Any comments about the towns in and around Cairns and/or Brisbane would be particularly good as the descriptions in some of the guide books/web sites I am sure does not do the places justice at all.....I am planning to come out later in the year so will be able to see the places then
If any one has found a town with few creepy crawlies or very small ones then please share
Hi Yorkieonthemove. Sorry I can't help you on that one. Very brave going on your own. Sure someone will know. I am always asking same sort of questions.
If anyone knows what Forest Lake area in Brisbane is like I would love your comments, good or bad.
Thanks

Hiya guys ,,wow you are brave coming alone ,,i couldnt do that (chicken),,cant tell you much about Cairns area only what i have learned from the locals and thats 'hot, hot, hot',,they also class it as small with not much to do ,,like i say ive never been so this is the aussises opinion .As for brisbane ,there arent many places to avoid, although not all towns will have rail links to brisbane ,what areas are the offices in ??
Forest lakes is very popular with familys especially ex british people ,it is like a small community with its own facilities ,looked nice enough when we visited although it isnt in one of the better areas of brisbane ,,hope this helps abit

enjoy your easter eggs!
I live in Sinnamon park in the western suburbs of Brisbane. That is a great area. 12k`s from the CBD, close to everything but not that close if you know what i mean. 20 mins from Bruce Highway so Gold Coast and Suuny Coast easily accessible. Shopping centres close to hand and tons of restaurants! Hosue prices good too.

HI, You mentioned the public transport, trains etc.. We went to Brisbane in December my cousin lives in Toowoomba he gets the taxi boat to work everday as he works the other end of the city to where he lives, what a way to travel! We also went to Hamilton Islands and they get the catamaran to work, it has the most spectacular views the catarmaran also sells alcohol, teas, coffees and snacks. What a way to travel, we couldn't believe how lucky they were and thought what a lovely way to travel after a day at work.
Also when we were there we did not experience any delays!!!!
Gd Luck
Regards

Hiya Toowoomba is inland and again a small rural town ,hubby had a job offer there but seemed abit remote for us ,,Redcliffe is beautiful but also a little pricey ,alot of buisness class people move here ,,Caboolture ,,huge loads of things to do ,lots of people (another area we looked at) but not all the beaches are sandy and for some reason again not known as a desirable area by the locals,Townsville &Mackay are obviously higher up and hotter,,all i know about theses areas is ,,this is were the sharks start!! i have been told both areas are definately worth a visit but not heard any real bad points so i guess thats a good thing ,,its such a big decision ,good luck let us know if we can help anymore

hi everyone, thanks for comments on areas.
Hi Cal, saw your house in the photos, great pool. Looked at some houses where you are in realestate.com.au. Looked bit too bush land for me. Think I'm more scared of creepies than you, shame cause it looked quite nice.
Guess I will just have to wait til July til I come and do my rekkie. (can't wait)

I did see you on wanted down under. lol still chuckle when I think about it. Maybe I'm not quite as bad as you, but not far off it.
What will the weather be like when I visit in July. I have been told that it is winter out there then, but I'm not expecting it to be cold.
