Hi Chris,

What's the commute like from Murrumba Downs to the CBD, by car and train?

Cheers

Jay

p.s. Good luck with whatever you intend to do!

see that you say youre going on a reccie to coffs harbur does this mean that you are not sure where to put down roots,i think it will take a lot of weight of my mind if this is the case knowing you dont have to get it right first time, youre still exploring where to live from your rented accomodation sounds like a great idea to me,good luck and i hope it all works out on the job front

Nice post Jai
Although we've got our visa on my trade and I'll be working first, I'd love the idea of "Mr Mum" permanently so I'm thinking of sending my better half out to train as a hairdresser.

Hia Richard , Sally and Family ,

Things here change on a daily basis and you will be very lucky to hit gold first time off - dont put that kind of pressure on yourself - emigrating is hard enough ! We just feel that Suburban life is not what we came to Australia for - its no exaggeration to say that a lot of area's around here are like a sunny UK - in parts the Bruce Highway north of us looks a lot like the M4 and the landscape is very British - we want to be a bit closer to the Ozzie dream where the beaches are walking distance away and where you feel part of the community - something that can't be achieved here in Murrumba Downs - dont get me wrong its perfectly NICE and livable but not what we want - its a very personal thing and these personal decisions take up a lot of thinking time over here. Good luck to you and your family - make the right decisions for you and no one else - Chris

Hi Jay ,

Murrumba Downs is approx 25km away from the CBD - there is no rail link here , the most convenient rail station is at Petrie from where it takes about 40 mins to the City - there is a connecting Bus service No 675 from M.Downs to Petrie station and the bus has been known to wait for City workers if the evening train is running late - but dont rely on this !
At peak time there are loads of trains running North - some stop at all stations and a few are Express and only stop at a few so make the journey less time wise. If your looking to drive in depends on what time you leave - you could get in in about 45 mins on a very good day - on a normal day an hour plus and theres no telling how long that plus will be - I travelled half way to the city for an interview last week and it took me an hour and a quarter. All the best - Chris

Hi there all has anyone had xperience of arriving in Oz, kids in tow? What do you do to sort out rental accom for when you arrive an any suggestions for getting kids into school b4 you settle any where? Do you just let them play hookie until you're sorted with a place? Also do kids settle into a different cirriculum at school or is it not too far removed from the UK. My 2 are 7 & 13 so its a sort of crucial age for my 13 yr old!! Ta TA x
