we have two kids 8 and 6, hoping to get organised to go out this year end. trying to decide where though. i am a qualified accountant but have not done that role for about 15 years - been in banking, quite happy to go back to it but not sure about how employers might feel about that. hubby wants to work in diving - priority is kids future for us - this is the main reason for going, getting a better lifestyle for them. saw some posts about cairns and people say perth more family orientated - we would try both but cos both kids are school age i want to get them settled into schools and avoid changing. any advice or useful insights from anyone would be helpful. i want to have a community around us and i suspect i might be more able to work in perth than cairns ?
Hi we are going to Perth to live in October. We went on holiday there 13 years ago and thought it was great. My husband is a chef and has looked into the job side of things. We want to go for a different if not better life for the kids.
I know what you mean about looking at different places to settle. I wish we had gone sooner when the kids were younger and we didn't have to think about them in schools. We could have travelled about and got a feel for other places.
We have relatives in Perth so at least we will know someone when we get there.

Not sure what Perth has to offer on the dicing side compared to Cairns which is obviously a mjor attraction with the great barrier reef. Have you had a look on the web to see whats on offer for you both in Perth or Cairns, that may help you to decide.
Our first choice is Townsville (although going to check out Brisbane when we go over later this year) as it has access to the reef, we love diving, as well as plenty of employment opportunities for both myself and my husband,

Hi we've settled in Perth, but also really liked QLD. We did holiday in Cairns and whilst it was a lovely place to visit for a holiday with the barrier reef and the rainforrest, it wasn't somewhere that I wanted to live - it also gets really hot.

Cairns (or Cannes as they say ) is not to be considered lightly by people who haven't been there yet (in all seasons). I worked there for 3 months one winter !!!! (Aussie winter) and it was still blood hot. don't forget its well into the TROPICS and VERY VERY HUMID in the summertime. if your not used to tropical Climes then its probably not the ideal place to go first time. We absolutely loved Cairns, but felt it to be very much a holiday & backpacker town, obviously because of the reef & rainforest. The population is very transient and I don't think I could actually live there. However...to work in diving it would be perfect - but I'm an accountant too and not too sure about the employment oportunites. I haven't been fortunate enough to visit Perth so can't comment there.

I loved Cairns and the surrounding areas - You have the rainforests and the beaches. The fishing was excellent - the missus hated it so Perth it is!
I Like this part of the world and it would be even stevens between the two opposite corners employment thing would be the thing that would make me stay in Perth but I like the variety of Queenland.
