Best for families?

Hi all,

I know this is very vague but my partner and I and our two young boys are planning a move to queensland. I dont really know where to start when choosing an area. I know everyone has there personal opinions but would love some advise. The most important factor to us is to be in the best area for children, any comments would be gratefully recieved!

Thanks :?

Hiya we have been here a few month now with 2 kids age 3 & 8 yrs ,we settled for Brisbane as it seemed to offer everything we wanted,we are living in Jimboomba on a new land estate called Flagstone ,we wanted to find a happy medium of having space(acerage) and having friends for the kids.We got everything we want here and only 35 min to surfers paradise ,the estate has its own schools and shops, major outlet centres are 15min away ,ive never had to go in the city as everything i want or need is nearer. The estates are a great base if you have kids as they make friends easy ,there are lots being built all over Brisbane if you look on realestate.com,hope this helps a little

Thumbs up

Hi there
We have just started the visa process and have chosen brisbane as the place we would like to be.We have chosen cleveland/redland bay area as the first place to look at simply because it is not too near the main city although its accessible, surfers paradise is not a million miles away,it seems a good area and the house prices are not too dear. There are plenty of schools in the area both primary and secondary and crime is not a major issue also what influenced us is the fact that there is a very good karate club near by for our 13 year old son ,and our freind who is sponsoring us has his business nearby.
You really have to work out what you need and go from there, like schools, you and your partner's work, how close to the city do you need to be etc. There is a hell of alot of research to do because this is a big decision and you have to put the odds on your favour as much as you can.
Ask questions, look on google earth, trawl this web site, ask questions and try to track down what you need, its mind blowing but hopefully worth it for all of us.
Good luck to you and i hope this has helped

hi josie
my daughter is called josie, you dont hear that often any more!
we too are in the same boat, just starting visa process and have spent ages deciding on a state, finally fell at queensland but now the problem is WHERE IN QUEENSLAND. it all looks so nice and the problem we found is that it all appears to be so much better than where we are in the uk that we wnat to live everywhere we look at.
we too have two children 9 and 6 and neeed to be close to schools and friends for the kids as well as work for my husband he is a carpenter. can i ask any one reading how big is the brisbane and surrounding areas is a long drive say compared to london and surrounding areas, may seem like a stupid question but when you look at maps i cant get my head round how big an area really is.
good luck choosing josie8 and let us know what you decide.

Hiya ,,you sound like me last year ,i had to chuckle ,my hubby taught me the states on a clock ,12 is cairns,3 is brissy ,9 is perth etc ,,it was a rough guide but gave me the jist !! Brisbane is huge beyond belief ,,i would def recomend sat nav for a first visit although you pick areas up quicker with an A-z .At a GUESS it is similar to london with inner and outer suburbs but incl Gold and Sunshine coasts i'd say the size of Wales, signage is miles better than the uk which helps when you get lost and you will !! Everything is pretty spread out because theres so much land .

Hiya there are 2 schools about 10 min apart ,Jimboomba Primary and Flagstone primary & high school. Both seem good we choose Flagstone as many of the kids live on the estate so easy to play after school.Property is rising slowly as so many people have settled here in last year ,postcode for property search is 4280.Jimboomba has its own shopping ctr currently being expanded,2 doctors ,pathologist, chemist, police, ambulance and fire station etc ,it is a semi rural area with many acerage properties, and surronded by greenery ,It is under Beaudesertshire council ,overall nothing is too far away.theres no websites as such as this place is only gettin popular the last year or two ,,ask away with any questions and ill try my best to answer

The Ryders is on a distinguished road
Jimboomba

Hi Cal

My husband and I love the properties you can buy in Jimboomba. We were looking at Perth but it is way too expensive now. The only concern is our beloved dogs. Is the wildlife there likely to cause them harm? Spinders/ Toads etc... What is the temperatures like (humidity) in Summer? What is the Mozzie situation there?

We are looking at coming out this September, we have our medicals this week! Getting very excited now.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

Hiya with Jimboomba being semi rural you do get spiders and snakes although i havnt seen anything scarey ,,,yet!!! ,,everyone around here as dogs ,cats ,horses, chickens etc and never hear of many problems ,a neighbouring suburb is having a bit of a prob with wild dogs (the same 2 scroungin for food) but no animals attacked etc. Most houses are fully fenced to keep unwanted guesets out but im sure youll be fine .
