HI
We have applied for a visa, and are doing some research on brisbane and suburbs,we quite like the look of redland bay /cleveland areas. We have a 13 year old boy so can anyone tell us if these would be good areas to look at ,also which areas should we avoid?
We will be coming over to have a look later this year and dont want to waste time looking at areas that we perhaps should not be looking at.
Hope someone can help
thanks....jamie

Hiya ,,i remember sitting in the uk 12mth ago posting this same question ,the reply the guy gave me upset quite a few people ,so before i start ,,this is a general opinion,,please dont be offended anyone !!
The areas which i was told and now agree are less desirable areas are ,,Logan ,Woodford,Kingston,Marsden,,etc ,,Cleveland was an area we fancied as it mentions the beach but i was a little disapointed to see mud flats rather than sand (mossie alert !) ,although the general area is very nice and well kept, not sure if you can buy acerage property there but im sure a search on real estate would tell you ,basically your heading the right direction (away from dodgy areas) hope this helps ,feel free to search back through posts and see which areas were named when i asked .

We are nearly there with our visa, Hopefully find out in the next few weeks. We are hoping to move to Shailer Park in Sept, my wife's family live in this area which is near Logan and Kingston. Have you heard any bad things about this area.

Ipswich was actually awarded ,'the best small city in the world to raise a family',and of all places they had to travel to London for the award.Ipswich has had millions invested in the area ,with new shopping centres ,houses and estates and has managed to shake off the ''undesirable'' image,it is actually not a bad place to go with excellent community facilities it as one of the best kids parks ive seen in Oz and is certainly not on my 'avoid' list,,

Have to agree ... my hubby was offered this depot and we said no way cause all the bad press we had heard about ipswich...then we arrived in Oz and went to see or ourselves and I really liked it....nice town centre and great park...too far from beaches though but some nice parts.
To be honest a "bad" area in oz doesn,t seem to me to be the same as a "bad" area in UK ...the exception to this ,that I have visited, is maybe parts of logan.
We live in Wynnum which isn't too far from Redland Bay and Cleveland. We love it here because it's near the water and marina (whichi s great if you like boaties as we do). There are also lots of facilities for kids to play including a mini "beach" and lots of barbecue areas. We have only been to Logan and the bits we did see I must say looked pretty undesirable. It's also a huge retail place so there are loads and loads of big stores.
