Is Brisbane area better than Sydney? - please be honest!

Hi all.

My wife, child and I moved from the UK on a 4 year visa in October last year. We arrived in Sydney and at first enjoyed it. Gradually this has waned and we are desperate to go back home.

We find the houses here are a mess....... one new house than an old house and to the eye it looks messy. Give you an example. In a nice area back home, all the houses would be of a same size, nice presented and you would assume that it s a good area. Here in Sydney it is a mess.

I do however like areas likes Castle Hill (too far and no transport)and Pymble (too expensive).

We came here to have a better quality of life, but Sydney is a total rat race and too expensive for what it is.

Question is, can Brisbane offer me a better deal?

Thanks,

Jay

I think someone who has spent time in both areas is better to answer this ,as im biased and have never been to Sydney ,we love Brisbane ,arrived nearly 3 months ago and it seems to get better by the day,we are in outer bris so abit quiter than the centre but easy reach to everything , were we are the houses are mainly brick bungalows with tin or tiled roofs although you do get the odd queenslander ,before making a move why not have a visit and see for yourselves, you also need to think about your reasons for being unhappy ,is it just the looks of the houses? or does it go deeper? and will a change of area really solve your problems ,good luck in what ever you decide to do

fatpom will become famous soon enough
I've lived 4 yrs in Sydney, one yr in Brisbane now (& 5 in country NSW).
I'm tempted to say that they are pretty similar.
Sydney is expensive compared to Brisbane but generally you'll earn less in Brisbane (only generally though - you will hear of exceptions).
After 4 months you may be rolling out of the honeymoon period.
Hang on tight - after all what have you got lose? If it doesn't get better try Brisbane before going home.
My advice is don't consider country NSW - the culture shock would be worse.

caboolture

Hi Jo and Paul. We were looking at Caboolture as one of the places we might like to live. We have 2 small kids so don't want to go to a rough area. Just wondered if you could tell us what it's like.
Thanks

Hi Graham and Trudy

We are intending to migrate to Caboolture July '07.
We are trying to collect as much info as possible, my wife knows a policeman who migrated to Adelaide about a year ago and he said it has a "hippie" feel to the commune  but he's trying to find out more. Don't know if it's a good or bad thing?????
We have 3 daughters so we are hoping to get it right first time.

When are you planning to migrate?

Regards

Al.

caboolture

Hi Jo and Paul and Daceys
Thanks for info. We were granted our visa's in Dec2006. We are going to Carina in July 07 to do a reccie. Thought it would be too risky to move without even visiting first. If we like it we will come home, sell house, then move permanently.
Personally I can't wait, fed up with all this rain !
