springfield lakes, brisbane

Hi everyone,
New to site so posted long-winded version of this question in welcome bit then realised it would probably have been better on Queensland slot.
Awaiting case-officer @ moment. If successful my husband has a good chance of employment near IPSWICH. Could anyone tell me anything about Springfield Lakes (the new planned community -eg is it a nice place to live, high on crime etc, it certainly looks beautiful!! ) I know Ipswich was not recommended on the forum & wondered if Springfield Lakes would be OK as it is fairly near Ipswich. The other place which I think we would love is Redland Bay ( Victoria Point etc) Could anyone tell me how long a commute in Km & time it would take from Redland Bay to Ipswich.
Thanks,
Wee Wen

Hiya we live about 15 min from Springfield Lakes ,in an area called Jimboomba. We love it around here ,the people are nice and the area is nice (semi-rural).There is loads of work happening at springfield lakes with the shops, uni etc but it seems a good area to be.Plot sizes are slightly smaller due to the amount of houses i would imagine is very similar to housing in Uk.Ipswich too is changing and although like you i read it wasnt a good area,i have now been, seen and met people who live there and its not a bad place,it too is undergoin regeneration projects and has one of the best parks i have come across in Oz so far.Redland Bay is beautiful ,hoses seem quite expensive as it is a slightly upper class area with most properties having river frontage or views,Ideal ares for commute to Springfield Lakes, with larger size plots of houses ,i would say are Greenbank,Teviot Downs,Jimboomba, and south Maclean ,all these areas have average plots and many new estates are being built, hope this helps

Springfield Lakes.

Hi there,
I've been to Springfield Lakes twice now and are planning to move out to that area next Summer. The area is lovely and very family orientated with great shopping facilities sprouting up recently and a great pub in The Spring Lake Hotel. The downside is the size of plots which, in the main, are ridulously small - often smaller than average sized plots on UK housing estate. I've seen many houses with practically no garden at all! It's a shame as one of the reasons we're moving over is the space.
Having said all that, we love the area and will try and seek out a house on a good-sized plot or even build our own if we can find the land. The areas suggested by the last poster may be worth looking at, but a little too far out for us. Other options could be Augustine Heights and Brentwood which are just down the road from Springfield Lakes but tend to offer bigger plots.
Watch out though! Prices seem to be soaring since we made the decision to move out there two years ago. Houses which cost $250K then are now going for $450+.

Nick.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but does anyone know how long it would take to get into the CBD from there? Is it easier to drive or go by train?

Thanks

Jay

CBD would be about 35 mins at a guess - train or car. Although there's plans for a station there, it's not for a few years so you'd have to driver 5 or 10 mins to the station (or there's a bus) Trains are much cheaper than here (Think we paid the equivalent of £2.20 return) and CBD parking very expensive!

Hiya it takes about 45 min to the city ,ipswich motorway is a nightmare so avoid at all costs and use the back roads ,it works out quicker at peak times. They are upgrading the motorway and so it may be better when all the work is done.
