Gold coast house prices

We now have our visa and we are selling our UK house. As the time draws near when we will be making the move I'm starting to look more seriously at house prices in the Gold coast. I will be renting initially but I intend to buy a house when we have a better idea of areas etc. We will be bringing approx £140,000 with us but we will need a couple of cars when we get there.

I'm a little scared of getting a HUGE mortgage when we get there on my $55-60k AUD salary.

QLD house prices seem to be rising still even though Perth has cooled, this seems to be the tail end of the surge in prices. I'm getting differeing advice from a mate who says rent for two years now the market is cooling to secure the best deal to buy when you see one you like in your budget.

Will my collateral/salary give me a decent 4 bed in a decent area without a salary which is 4 years salary?

TIA

:)

The Gold Coast is a big place and it all depends where in the Gold Coast you go.Property near water and in town is obviously more expensive and normally above the everyday budjet,we live in the gold coast hinterland ,hubby works in Southport, here we can have an acerage property for reasonable money (just bought 2acres,pool,3/4bed for $325k) and you are still near enough to everything ,it takes hubby 35min to get to work and takes 40min to get to beaches ,supermarkets and shops within 10min and major outlet centre within 20min ,have a look at realestate.com and search gold coast areas to get an idea of prices, hope this gives you an idea

Hi am a recent arrival to Gold Coast, moved from Isle of Wight in May. Am a mortgage broker (free service) give me a ring when you get here and I will talk you through house buying process, and how much you can borrow/afford.
Yes you can buy something with the money you have, but i bet you will be tempted to get something nicer when you get here. Have a look on real estate.com.au for house prices.
We live in Robina, my mobile is 0410 830 201 or email dawn.courage@mortgagechoice.com.au

We took out a mortgage just 2 months after arriving and its been ok so far. Dont forget to keep some money aside for private education if you have kids, as the state system is a bit behind the UK. School fees are about $1400 per term.

Good Luck, you wont regret it

Hi Dawn,

Do you like living in Robina? It is one of the areas I have been researching?
