Hi all Im new to the forum, but ive picked up some good tips from reading every one elses problems, thanks. So here is my own Im a British gas engineer & my partner and I with our young son are going through the process as a skilled migrant, but we are not sure where the work would be for me, its not as if you need central heating in OZ can any one help, Cheers Deano
There is plenty of work for gas engineers in industry. I use them regularly. You have to be licenced to install & commission gas installations. Which means you'll probably have to jump through the same sort of hoops that sparkies do to get the licence.
There will also be lots of domestic work as many people use gas hobs in thier kitchen. I worked on the design of 5 star domestic gas hot water heaters. More & more councils are forcing new houses to have these as an environmental issue.
There is a market for gas fires & gas fired central heating etc in the southern states & at higher altitudes in NSW.
Hope this helps?
Just noticed your location - I'm originally from Earby (far side of Colne)
Thanks for the advise Fatpom. Im not realy sure where we are going to end up but ,Addelaide has been mentioned. where are you living and how did you find the experience of moving abroad.
Living in Brisbane at the moment, have lived in Sydney & two spots in country NSW - work takes me around a bit. Adelaide is a pretty good town from what I recall of it. As you probably know it's next to the desert & I'm particularly fond of the outback - has a magic of its own, very very different from Burnley.
As for the experience of moving abroad I reckon everyone who has could write a book on it - where to begin?
Earby weird?.... well yep!!!
Didn't need to tell me about the weather in East Lancs - its always bloody cold & raining
Good luck with the venture
Hi Dean,
how far along the process are you? We have just started and my husband is training to be a gas fitter, have you had much luck? Where about are you thinking of settling?
