How big is the Gold Coast?

Been reading lots of different post on different forums and noticed that the Gold Coast is a very popular place for us Poms to settle. Can anyone tell me how big the Gold Coast is?

The Gold Coast population is currently about 500,000 (440k in 2001, compared to 1.6M in Brisbane, & 4M in Sydney in 2001)

It covers about 50 suburbs, listed here, and is the second fastest growing City in Australia.

As to its physical size, it is quoted as having a 70 kilometre coastline.

Distance from Brisbane CBD to the Surfers area of the Gold Coast is about a 1 hour drive.

My home town has a population of 100,000 so a big difference. With the population on the Gold Coast being so big what is the unemployment rate like?

Many Thanks

Gold Coast employment

Hi Stacey

the Gold Coast doesn't FEEL big as it's REALLY spread out and there are many different suburbs that hide in the hinterland or along the coast. Some have a lovely village feel and people are pretty friendly.

Many Gold Coast employers simply can't find staff to fill jobs. Gold Coast City Council for example are hiring Brits from the UK sight-unseen!!!

Having said that - the skill-set you bring will always be a consideration. What job d you do? Maybe I can help?

Regards

Chantal
