Hiya
i asked this same question a few monts ago and was given a pretty substanial list of replies, you want to have a look through the postings as you should find it interesting .Although ,,,,,we visited Brisbane in March and covered many suburbs ,the locals seem to mention Ipswich in answer to this question,so we decided to go ,the park in the centre was terrific the people and kids seemed pleasent and basically we struggled to fault it .i think one of the main problems we ask this is because we are used to life and crime in the UK, in OZ it is a different way of life where burglarys are making the news, kids dont seem to 'hang around' the streets like here there isnt the vandalism or graffiti the uk has, dont get me wrong there is crime ,house breakins seem very common and i read in the papers about quite a few car chases ,BUT i'd rather risk that than being attacked in the street or my daughter raped in supermarket toilets ,basically this place is the pits and people in Oz seem to have pride in their country,,sorry if ive rambled but hope this has been of help ,i wouldnt worry too much as we didnt see one area that looked bad ,,

Take care
Cal x

That made me recall some recent comments locally about the litter left on the streets.

If something isn't very common, it becomes newsworthy. ;)

Not that long ago there was front page headlines about a bloke being bashed up after leaving the pub. And a very well know one just a few years ago, on a News years eve, when a big fight broke out at the main local pub, and all the local police were called to attend.

It's different, so it is newsworthy.

Lots of crime does get reported here.. My local paper today has:
Page 6: Police search for Vandals who hit a house with water bombs filled with oil.
Page 10: Charity bin set alight, and Graffitti on local church.

However, some areas are worse. We had to go to Woodridge once, and it's a place I would not fancy living in. I just looked up the area, and found this comment:
Quote:
Logan’s recorded crime rates vary between suburbs, but are on average up to double the Queensland average for many categories of crime including youth crime.
The loganshire regions of Kingston, Woodridge and Waterford West, being mentioned.

hi
www.ourbrisbane.com has some really good statistics on different areas in the brisbane area, we researched some on a recent trip and they seemed true to the web site, mount ommaney and river hills are nice.
hope this helps a little.
