taking our cat to Brisbane

:?: We will soon be moving to Brisbane and want to take our cat, we have heard that you have to keep your cat indoors on a night and in the day if they are seen outside your property bountries the council will take them to the pound! Does anyone live in Brisbane with a cat?? are these rules inforced? And does anyone recommend a good company to take our cat with, we have heard of golden arrow and airpets. Can anyone help?? Thanks for any info, Pete. :?:

Hi Pete and welcome to Poms,

I have read good things about golden arrow, also jets 4 pets come highly recommend. I am not sure about the cat being in at night thing but try www.ourbrisbane .com this site should be able to help. I know they are more regulated about dogs so it would not surprise me.

Good luck with it all mate.

Thanks for that

I think it was on ourbrisbane.com that we found out about it. Its a good website.

I would be interested to hear from any cay owners in Brisbane on the "keeping your cats indoors/enclosed" subject.

Thanks again

Pete and Heidi

Hi Pete,

Airpets are a good company to consider.

Do not worry about the cats outside and the council, I have heard this before and can't remember if it is actualy a law or is an urban myth but if it is a law it is certainly not enforced. Mind you I don't let my 2 cats out at night for another reason, CANE TOADS.If your cat goes up to a cane toad and tries to bite or play with it, then your cat may only have 15 minutes to live. We have moved house recently and we never had any at all in the last house and our cats went out at night. In our new house we have up to 20-30 cane toads around the house as soon as it gets dark.

We would never have moved here if we had known as they are truly horrid creatures, when you move here remember to check out if there is a problem with the toadies. :?

Some Council info on cats:

Brisbane Council
http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:B...555:pc=PC_1810

Redland Council
http://www.redland.qld.gov.au/Corp/R...+animals/Cats/

Some councils make Cat catching cages available to residents.. read this... http://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au/conten...=587&cnid=1644 This applies to Victoria, but may occur in other States.

An interesting read at: http://www.users.bigpond.com/berrime/inoutcats.htm

Thankyou both for your replies

We are going to contact airpets and golden arrow. Interesting about the toads - never heard of them!!

We have visited the websites you gave us and found them helpful.

Thankyou

Pete
