weather in brisbane

Hi all...my partner and I plus our 6 year old are hoping to plan a 3 week recci visit to brisbane down to syndey or vise versa later on this year. Unfortunately we can only go in August. My partner is worried about the state of what the weather will be then as it will be "winter time". can anyone tell me whether we are likely to be washed out with rain/chill for the duration or are we just being paranoid?..plus will there still be plenty to entertain the littlen...? thanks all

Scroll down and you will get down to the averages for each season.

I leave on Saturday for three weeks in Brisbane and Cairns and I shall let you know how the weather was!

In August 2005 Brisbane had 5 days in which it rained, and only one had serious rain where we got 12mm, the next highest was 5.8mm

The coldest overnight temp got down to 6.6°C on 11th Aug, and the highest daytime reached 26.2°C on the 20th
The rain season is generally in the summer. (eg: Dec 2005 we had 78mm, and in Aug 2005 we had 23.4mm totals for the months)

Sydney had 3 days rain Totalling 1.6mm for Aug 2005 !
With temps going between 5.1°C to 25.8°C

Any idea what part of Brisbane area you will be visiting, or is it just the city area ?

Hi thanks for the info guys..er not sure what areas yet. Really only in the very early stages of planning. My partner lived in sydney for 2 years so we def want to go there. But as we only will have 3 weeks i think it may be pushing it a bit to do the stretch between brisbane and sydney in that time. havent been there myself so i would not know. The idea really is for me to see for my self what oz is like and to get some idea of where we would like to live should we decide to make a permanant move in the future. Have been told northern rivers would be a good start..unfortunately August is the only time when we can all be off on leave..

I have often driven from Sydney to Brisbane, usually stopping overnight around Port Macquarie. If you have not yet booked your tickets, do what I do and contact a travel agent like Travelmood and go into one city and out the other. It costs me no more and it means you can enjoy a liesurely drive to Brisbane, a couple of days in Brisbane itself and then off you go back home.
