Hi Samantha

We arrived here in August 05, we are 20mins drive from Sunshine Coast but are moving to the Glass House Mountains in January. We too were in a similar situation, my hubby spent many hours on the internet looking for jobs before we left the Uk and also from the day we arrived here. He was worried that as a manager in the Water Industry he too would find it difficult to find similar work. He got a job 3 weeks after arriving in Qld, he is doing something completely different (he now builds and maintains domestic waste water treatment plants) and he loves it.
Try to reassure your hubby, once you get here apply for jobs that don't exactly fit the bill as well as the ones that do, if you get an interview and its not what you thought it was, then nothing lost, but great interview experience.
Let us know where you are settling, our kids are 13, 8 and 2.

Hope this helps

Deb

Hi Samantha, we moved out to Australia last Oct - 05 and couldn't decide whether to move to Bayside suburbs of Brisbane Wynnum, Cleveland, etc (where we stayed few years ago) or locate to Sunshine Coast. We had been to Mooloolaba and loved it but wasn't sure about whether we could get jobs etc. We ended up choosing Buderim/Mountain Creek on the Sunshine Coast which is about 7 mins to Mooloolaba and really central for everything. There are not as many big companies as in Brisbane and my husband has a job, as a boilermaker/steel fabricator, but the money is not great and he isn't permanent although he has been there 10 months. We are trying to establish a business as we feel that this is our best option up here on the coast. We absolutely love it up here and really don't want to move but jobs are a big factor, but something always comes up. Are you here yet ? Where abouts are you settling? We have 2 children aged 3 and 5 and it is an absolutely fantastic life for them, we have no regrets.
