Come to Brisbane!

Hi There,

Thought I would introduce us, Mark, Andrea, Zach (7) and Connor (6).

We moved out 6 months ago and are living in a place called Capalaba which is about 20k south east of Brisbane City. Its a great place to live and we have really settled in Well.

I am working for Optus doing Telecom and data installs and Andrea is now a swimming instructor.

We moved over from Morpeth in Northumberland but had a right mare as the house sale fell through half way through. We are here now though and cant believe that we are living the dream.

I know how difficult it is trying to get help and information from anywhere, so if you need to know anything please give us a buzz and we will try and help you out.....

Speak soon,

Mark & Andrea

Hi Cal and Gary...Glad to hear you have your application in and to let you know the waiting is worth it. Brisbane is great....we decided on Capalaba because we had a friend who used to live here. Once we visited this area we know it was right for us. All the surrounding areas are great especially Wellington Point and Cleveland. We have been hear 6 months now and love it, the kids are great have made loads of friends. We have just bought our first house move in just before Christmas...Life is good. Let us know if we can help you with anything, hope things go well for you all

Hi Jamie

Yes I was in comms in the uk and worked as a pm for Comunica in London but from an engineers background. I got sick of that and wanted to get back on the tools so chose Optus which is like BT.

There is loads of work on at the minute as we are going digital, they train you up do do all the installs which takes a couple of weeks and we even had a laf doing it.

Start at 8 and am finished by 2 - 2.30 its great..... we are looking for engineers at the moment and are advertising for 15........ cant get them apparently which is good news for you!

One waiting for you kid!

Mark

Hi Hoolys 9

We are moving to Brisbane next year with our two young children (3 and 9 months). Just wondering if I could pick your brain.

How have you found the temperature? I know the hot bit has not started yet but so far?

I am also trying to do a budget comparing costs here and in Oz, so if you could indulge me. How much are property rates? What is your monthly gas/leccy bill? How do costs compare generally to the uk? Are there any hidden things that we might not be aware of?

I'll go now otherwise this post will go on and on.

Thanks in advance

Hi Mark & Andrea, not sure if I have spoken to you anywhere else, I recognise the names, but then it could be someone else :)

We are over in Victoria Point, just 15 minutes further east to you.

What schools do your kids go to ?

I would advise getting air con in the house, aswell as the cars :)

(I did these figures in June this year)
I recently went through my last two years costs of living here, and the averages per week are:

Cars - $103.00 (2 cars, both fully paid)
Education - $73.00 (Private School)
Electricity - $23.00 (No Gas in house)
Food - $126.00 (For 2 adults and 1 pre-teen child) Some people spend much more!
Household - $97.00 (Building & Contents Insurance, Garden, General Maint etc)
Medical - $39.00 (No Medical Insurance)
Misc - $195.00 (Including Holidays, clothes, the wifes shoes & handbags etc)
Phones - $23.00
Rates - $33.00 (Rates & Water)

Total Weekly $712.00 (But No rent or Mortgage included)

Actual rates this year, in Redlandshire, $466 for the last quarter, This includes water.

Our electric costs were:
