hi , and welcome to brisbane...
the work for a most engineers is either archifield area or just over near the airport areas not good places to live , but if u go looking remember the golden rule, water or near the water is much cooler in summer, but be aware of mossies and midgies.

well!!!! you know what i mean, i know no were is quite that bad (i hope),we actually live about 10 / 15 mile away and its lovely here no real trouble ,good schools ,etc but were not too far away from the hustle n bustle of manchester if we wanted it ,somewere in oz similar but sunny ,with no idiotic rules and regulations ,and probably more people that speak 'english' than there is in england nowadays ,,anyway time for bed ,,,xx cal
u talk about bad areas. well every town has these areas cant be helped, But the ones to stay away from if any would be browns plains , ipswich, sunnybank, anywhere there is cheap housing and single mums is a NO NO
Anyway the crime rate here is 1/10th as it is in the UK , sure u can be robbed , but u can be robbed any suburb any time if u dont have security measures. I love brisbane over sydney i have 2 kids and we live on the outer part of brisbane on the water at cleveland, we have a range from 300,ooo $ homes to 4 million dollar homes, Savage garden lives here ect. The south east part of brisbane is still a growing area and has a good reputation for young and execetive family envoirment... sorry for my poor spelling ....just got back from a big night on the town and a wee bit hung over
my advise is to stay to the coastal part of brisbane
ps bring me a mini cooper please

thanks so much for the info and if i could fit a mini cooper in my case i would bring you one ,,thats if we are accepted,we are hopefully (if accepted) going to rent for a few months just incase ,i guess we are looking for a family type area but not to far from work (were ever that may be),any tips are more than gladly welcome, bye for now ,xx cal
have a look at www.realnet.com.au for homes to rent /buy.
always rent short term as you may not like the area that you first pick. Its better to break a short term leas over a long term. The only thing i am fussy over these days is congestion of traffic. there is a lot of new homes getting built on the north side of brisbane ( decption bay) which our roads cant cope with the extra traffic, the trip to the city can be 45 mins where on a good day u can do it in 25. , nowhere bad as the ring road around london but after a while 20 mins of traffic is 20 mins less partying with the babes
