HI

MY NAME IS DEBBIE. I AM FROM OSWALDTWISTLE, LANCASHIRE. MARRIED TO MICK WITH A 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CHLOE. WE ARE MOVING TO BRISBANE ON A STUDENT VISA NEXT MONTH. WE WENT ON HOLS THERE IN FEBRUARY AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE PLACE. WE ARE MOVING TO AN AREA CALLED NORTH LAKES, A NEW COMMUNITY WITH A GOOD SCHOOL CALLED NORTH LAKES STATE COLLEGE, EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS THERE AND THERE ARE ALSO LOTS OF ENGLISH WHICH WOULD HELP THE CHILDREN SETTLE QUICKLY. IT IS 10 MINUTES FROM REDCLIFFE WHERE THERE IS A SMALL BEACH, ONE HOUR FROM THE SUNSHINE COAST AND ONE AND A HALF FROM THE GOLD COAST.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

DEBBIE FROM LANCASHIRE :D

With this being quoted:

From pre-school to year 7 (in 2004)
Will continue to roll our each year until pre-school to Year 12
Quality seamless and innovative educational provision http://www.northlakescollege.qld.edu.au

and
Within 10km of North Lakes there are the following:

11 pre-schools *
12 state primary schools *
6 non-government primary schools *
5 state secondary schools *
5 non-government secondary schools *

another useful link is:

The Elliotts
Greetings all!
My husband, myself and 9 year old daughter are coming to oz! (hopefully - still going through the process). This forum is amazing and a personal hi to all those with kids thinking of going to Brisbane; we fancy it too
We went for our honeymoon this year and visited Australia Zoo: home of the Crocodile Hunter (my daughter adores him and wants to work with animals when she grows up). We stayed in Caloundra (big thumbs up, lovely people, beautiful sea, excellent shops etc..) and are now toying with the idea of moving near to the Zoo and running a guesthouse. My husband is a vehicle technician and I work in IT, but we want to embrace the attitude of the Australians and work for pleasure..not Council Tax!
We are at the stage of applying to the TRA (this week - it's taken 3 months to get the documents in order and tooooo much money for my liking, but I know it'll be worth it).
Anyone in Buckinghamshire emigrating?
Take care everyone xxx

Areas

We arrived in Morayfield a suburb in Caboolture in August this year (we are from Bolton, Lancs). For those of you from the North West its a bit like living near the Trafford Centre, there are lots of shops, the shopping centre has just been extended, lots of takeaways and a cinema. Some of the Australians feel that the crime rate has increased around this area and that there are better areas to live, however the crime rate is nothing compared to that in the north west of England.
Its definately not easy deciding where to live and we are moving next year to the Glass House Mountains, fortunately my husband works in Nambour, so it will be nearer to work. It's quieter there, the high school as an excellent reputation and the junior school has fewer pupils, only 400 compared to the 1100 at his current school(a bit daunting for an 8 yr old)
The only thing I can advise is be prepared to move, we came with that thought in mind, We have visited Qld twice before settling & still didn't get it right, we forewarned the kids that they may have to move schools, we have 3 kids 13, 8 & 2. But if you do move it will only be a small one compared to the one you have just done.

Lets us all hope that CalNgary is not granted a visa and invites Dodge over to stay with her in her lovely middle class utopia.. that is only 10/15 miles from Manchester.. maybe they could visit Moss Side together with other like minded people so that all the single mums can live in peace away from them.

The majority of single parents are ordinary women, with enough to cope with, let alone the negativity projected by bigots like these two.
Single Mums experience poverty and they have to learn to cope with total responsibility, loneliness and guilt. There are also many positive aspects such as peaceful atmosphere, contentment, independence, resilience.

Now concentrate here Dodge and CalNGary.. single mums have priorities too.. like children's well-being, a satisfying job, decent housing, good health, and reliable childcare.

p.s. I’m not a single mum, I’m a happily married father, but thank god not to one of these two 'wannabes':
