Single Mums a NO NO? Is this a general observation or just one particular area you are aware of ??
Hmmm, I think that the writer, Dodge is referring to Single Mums who because of personal circumstances and lack of family support etc are depending on Social Welfare and would therefore be more likely to live in say Government Housing which would most likely be situated in the more less affluent areas.
However, I know lots of Single Mums who are Doctors, Lawyers and Police Officers and they live in top class homes and suburbs.
Was a little concerned as I am a single parent and don't wish to have stigma because of this. I too am a professional and intend to provide for my boy as I do in the UK.

Hi, below is a list of suburbs to have a look at. All these suburbs in my opinion are not only good places to raise a family, but they’re close to the city, and should provide for a solid investment, due to Brisbane’s house prices predicted to boom in coming years (If I had a spare ˝ mil, that’s where I’d be buying into).
I’ve probably missed a few nice suburbs, but it will give you something to start with. Prices will vary from mid to high range and obviously depend on what you’re looking for I.e with or without pool, 3 or 4 bedroom, modern/old etc.
(List is in no particular order, although I personally prefer the north).

These are the two major real estate sites in Aus, which all the Real Estate Agencies advertise on – www.realestate.com.au & www.domain.com.au (any others are small fish).

Redcliffe
Caboolture
(and some of the surrounding suburbs of each).
P.s Get a place with air-con & preferably a pool as well - you'll be needing them!
Hi Dodge, I know what you mean about single Mums, and everyone knows not all are bad, some people need to chill and not get too PC, thats another thing wrong with this country and another thing to put on my list to leave.Last day at work on Monday thank god.
Flights booked 31/10/05 Singapore Airlines (more leg room).Hotel room booked at Heathrow for the night before, we have been advised by other migrants not to let your relatives see you off at the airport as it is too traumatic especially for the children as it may frighten them.
We are heading for the Gold Coast as husband is a carpenter as there is lots of building work if he can handle the heat. Container will take up to 12 wks so he will not have any tools. So i will be working. Had a strange feeling Monday morning of feeling all alone, but maybe it had something to do with the drinking I did at the weekend. My friend is moving to Essex and she felt the same, her Mum is giving her a hard time and it's only 40minutes drive away it must just be a parent thing.
Anyway there is no going back at least not until 2years time when I have got my citizenship. But I am going to give it a really good go. The kids just want to get there they can't wait to going surfing, new school etc.
It has been a long haul especially with all the paper work, (skilled independent) then hoping the medicals come back clear, but when you finally get that visa its the best thing like passing your driving test x 100. I felt like we had one the lottery, which it is like because you get this chance of a new life.
Any way must go huband is getting worried as I spend alot of time on this site.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY.
