Moving to Brisbane

Hi all,

Another First timer,

If any locals can tell what Brisbane is like I would be grateful as I have never been to Oz and In January I will be emigrating with my wife and 2 young kids (9&5). Jobs sorted. Only accepted the job offer this week but all are excited. We are sure we are doing the right thing.

The biggest question we have is do we sell all our stuff and buy new or is it cheaper to take it with us

Cheers

Neil

G'day Neil, Queensland, beatiful one day, perfect the next. :)

Brisbane is the fastest growing city in Australia. I have been there many times to visit family.

The suburbs and towns surrounding Brisbane are varied in size and type of location from being out in the bush to near a riverside or near the beach. Our son lives in a new area which is virtually being carved out of the bush, with man made lakes, new pubs, schools, shopping centres, universities and so on.

I note that you will be arriving in January. It will be hot at that time.

The question you ask in relation to selling or bringing your 'stuff' is a hard one and I think that only you can answer that, because I guess it depends on the value of your 'stuff' v the cost of transportation and storage and also the replacement value.

However, the trend appears to be for people to take their household goods with them. I think it's also good to have familiar items with you, especially when you are settling into a new environment.

Cheers.

ditch the old stuff and go for new, we have a totally different way of life , we entertain outside more than inside, no formal dining rooms or lounge room, just thr good old deck and BBQ and a theater room

Here is a quote from a new arrival from the UK, "I would recommend you take everything though - I wish I'd taken all my garden implements including mower, and some other bits and pieces. Buying it all is a nightmare anywhere - let alone Whyalla -especially when there's a lot more interesting things to do!"
