cairns goldcoast anywhere in between?

hi new to this forum just needed some advice as we would like to live in cairns but we read bad stuff about some areas this has put us off, or should it? plus would there be work for me and my husband. he is an electrician but it says there is not many people there so was wondering about the job vancancies?
or should we move closer to the gold coast with more prospects?
advice needed please

Don't be put off Cairns, there are good parts and bad parts in all towns and cities. There are quite a few living in Cairns and in the towns south of Cairns. Have a search around the forum for Cairns and I am sure you will find a lot of threads, also have a look at photos on the site.

thank s petals im still so confused, we wanted the tropical climate, but getting a job for simon is a must so might have to go near a city, we thinking sunshine coast. any suggestion?

Make sure he is eligable to work as an electrician in Queensland.
Getting the "local ticket" needs looking into.

Hi Pam, not sure why you have heard negative things about Cairns, we moved from Melbourne and for us it's one hundred times better, yes there are a few suburbs I would avoid, although to be honest they are nothing like a lot of the towns in the UK.
One thing a lot of people go on about is the humidity, to be honest from May until November we have perfect weather, 25 degrees, no humidity. January and Feb are the worst for humidity.
Re jobs yes you have to be in the right trade to get a job, electricians are in demand up here in fact we are still trying to get hold of one for the last 12 months. If he can do aircon installations etc he will do well.
