Glass House Mountains?? Sunshine Coast??
Hi,
We have just had our visa approved and are planning the move. We love The Sunshine Coast (esp Mooloolaba) and was wondering if anyone knows what The Glass House Mountains are like? Would it be a good place to bring up kids? At the moment we have a 4 month old, what is it like for mums and tots, schools, activities etc?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Kath

Hi I don't live in Queensland but I do like the area you are referring to and its popular so hope that someone comes along to give you more information. If you look at the foot of the page you will see a link to the Queensland forum, you may get a better response by putting a thread on it as well. Good luck

Glasshouse mountains are beautiful and where I intend to end up within the next few years.im currently in Bribanes western suburbs. I would say it is a beautiful place to raise a family but I can't help you with schools.

Many places are great to visit but not for permanent residence. I moved around a lot in my younger days but never took anything permanent at first, tried to get to know the area first.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the schools etc, but my parents moved to the Glass House Mountains just 2 weeks ago and they are loving the area. The locals are all very friendly and there is a real sense of community. There appears to be a lot of organised sports in the region with a large sporting ground really close by where we saw a lot of kids playing soccer. It doesn't have many shops and those that are there have pretty restricted trading hours, but there are 2 larger towns just 20 minutes away with just about everything you need.
One thing to consider is availability of work for yourself, will you be able to find something local or are you going to have to commute a long way each day. There is a lot of traffic on the roads going in and out of town and what looks like an easy journey could easily double in time during rush hour.
Offshore partner visa sent 2/6/10, signed for 3/6/10, money taken 7/6/10, CO acknowledgement 9/6/10, PR Visa granted 28/9/10, Arrived in Brisbane 5/11/10 and loving life again

Thanks for the advice, I think it will all depend on where my husband gets a job (he is a Tree Surgeon), I am a Nurse but will be a stay at home Mum for a while. I am not a city girl, so wherever we decide to settle will be pretty rural or a small beachside town maybe? Any suggestions in The Sunshine Coast will be explored when we arrive

I recommend 2 places - Buderim and Maleny.
I need a Tree surgeon to do some work in my garden to touch base when you get here.
Glass House area is stunning though a bit isolated to live in - would really recommend Buderim - would avoid Mooloolaba as a place to live.
Schools etc - Buderim is the place! Kids again Buderim - lots of mums and baby groups at the Goodlife Centre.
PM me for advice and I can put your hubby in touch with a tree surgeon firm here.

Hi,
Buderim was actually top of my list, but I had read some bad reviews on realestate.com. I am so glad you have got in touch as I thought it looked great. I definitely don't want to be too isolated with a baby. I am hoping the house sells asap and then we can make the move. I am so excited about it. I will PM you nearer the time, thank you so much, Kath

Hi,
We live in Pelican Waters about 20 minutes away from Glass House, know the place well as my son played cricket for the rangers. Very close to Beerwah which has shops and facilities, very green with fab views, you will defo need a car though to avoid being isolated. Buderim has some nice parts and some parts that are old and a bit antiquated. Depends what type of place you want. Oh and house prices in GlassHouse are massively cheaper the Buderim. Hope that helps.
Jon
