Help!! All set to go and suddenly need to rehome our cat.

OK we're all set to go. Move cube departed today. We've sold the house and completion in on Monday. Flights are on Thursday. OK so technically we're homeless for 3 days - but that's not really a problem. Our problem is my Sister-in-law has decided at the last minute that she won't take our cat.

We've contacted all our friends but no one will take her, we've contacted various animal shelters but they're all full (one quoted a seven month waiting list) and there's no time now to arrange shipping the cat to Oz. What do we do?

At the end of the day, if you are not going to be in the country, and have no-one to look after the cat, the cat is homeless. The shelters are set up for homeless animals, not for people who 'just don't want them anymore' in practise (not that you just don't want the cat anymore). If you turn up with the cat, say 'we are now homeless and living out of our car. We CANNOT have the cat with us, as it will NOT be fed, and will be in a small hatchback with a family of 5. The alternative it is on the streets. Which it will be in 3 days when we fly to Oz.' They will take it. If there is no room at the actual physical centre you go to, they will ship it off to another one, however far that might be.

At the end of the day, what are they going to do if you just walk out with the cat left on the floor? They will take the cat, they just don't want people turning up with animals if they can prevent it in anyway, hence they tend to say there is no room at the inn for phone-ins...

Good luck with it all, and hope kitty finds a new home asap :)

Some links below, if you havent tried these places.

      Maybe offer a donation?

The Cat Rescue based near me do a wonderful job on very little resources, a family member ended up with a feral cat in her garden who then had 4 kittens. The local Cat Rescue arranged for and paid for their neutering, we just had to take them to the vets as they didnt have anyone to take them. But they are desperately under-funded. Maybe a donation in order for them to home and feed the kitty until they can re-home?

chestnut will offer to board cats for £9 per day until they can find space in the re-homing unit, would this be possible?

..........if you also take some bags of food, flea and worm medicine ,even some toys and bedding..............often helps to rehome your cat if they can say comes with all you need...............not sure about where you are but many shelters have a website with a wish list of things needed...............as said before when stretched to the limit it's always hard to take on new arrivals................good luck.............and best wishes to you and yours on your new journey...........tink x

Thanks to everyone for their support. We've found someone who's agreed to adopt our cat (from 18th August) and our relatives have agreed to look after her until then.
