Lovely areas outside Canberra

Hi

I'm hoping someone here can give me some names of nice areas to live outside Canberra?

I'm looking for areas no further than 60 KM's travelling where there are some nice schools (either state of private) with good facilities for kids ages ranging from 7 years to 17 years plus nice parks, decent shopping, some restraunts, cafes etc.

A nearby hospital would be good as well but happy to travel to that (I'll be looking for employment eventually!)

Many thanks.

Tracy

Outside Canberra??? Um, no not really with all those things you have mentioned. Canberra is the hub basically and it has the services you mentioned. The further out you go, the further you are from all the services. If you lived in Sutton or Captains Flat for example then your kids would go to Queanbeyan or come into Canberra for school. You could go to Queanbeyan hospital but if it was serious you would be sent in to Canberra. Queanbeyan is pretty much a suburb of Canberra anyway except dont let any of the locals know I said that.

There are some "villages" within a 60km radius but they are pretty basic and not really "trendy" with parks, restaurants etc. Three pubs and a part time grocery store, is more likely the sort of set up you will find.

For half decent shopping you will need Canberra and we do a good line in restaurants - with maybe one exception the bush doesnt "do" good restaurants!!!

Have a look on Google Earth to see what the land is like around here - that will give you a good idea of what sort of place this is.

There are quite a few good settlements just outside of Canberra now. Jerrabomberra is one of the classiest ones but they are also building big out Bungendore way as there is a new defence centre there now and land/houses are rising in price. Murrambateman is also on the up which is near to Yass but only 30 minutes North of the centre of Canberra. If you are into wine it is also in the middle of all the vineyards in the Canberra region. We know a couple who have just built there and most plots are 10 acres !. One thing about most of these places, you will have to like the rural lifestyle including the wildlife .

Jerrabomberra is pretty much a suburb - and under the flight path to boot. And it is in NSW so zoned for Queanbeyan schools. Rural living is quite popular - if you have a look on allhomes.com.au & allclassifieds.com.au you will see what is available in the rural areas. None of them meet the OP's requirements though, they are small settlements like Murrumbateman and Gunning or lots of hobby farm type arrangements like Wombeyan and Michelago. Only rural villages within the ACT are Hall - it is quite nice and Tharwa - if you dont mind taking the long route to anywhere.

Hi Tracy

I prefer Queanbeyan to Canberra itself as it has a bit more "character".

PM me if you want further info.
