Not so many of us on here moving that way.

We looked at Hobart, well me as I love fishing villages, but it was never going to suit our family, unfortunately as it was only me that was interested.

There are a couple going though, of the top of my head its someone called Herbster, but they are preparing for their move and I haven't seen them around so much lately.

Hi Adam & Chez

I have family who have just moved from Taz to errr queensland i think. They spent 20 yrs there and loved it but it depends what your looking for. My friend has just been there backpacking and said it was fab but very like Scotland (even had snow and hailstones lol) that was about 2 weeks ago and she is now back in Sydney which she says is OK. From what i have gathered its quite quiet and laid back and kinda like the uk (countryside, seasons etc) Again this is hearsay i have never been myself but its always good to hear something i think

Well good luck and hope to hear how u like it

Hi

First of all....excellent choice! We are heading to TAS as soon as the house is sold. There are a few PIO members heading that way and one or two already there. I've got loads of bookmarks on my computer but unfortunately it's in for repair at the moment and I'm hijacking my sons laptop. I'll try and remember them and re-post when I get thro' the ol' grey matter!

Are you planning on doing a reccy before the move or are you just going for it?

Hi there.
We moved to Tasmania 06 with our 16 year old son who has now got himself an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic ( sorry I always thought they were mechanics !!) he loves it over here because it is so safe he has a freedom that he would not have had in the UK. Our crime rate is very low. House prices are the lowest in Australia. The place is stunning. There are just under 500,000 people live on the island so its not wall to wall people. Shopping in Hobart and the shopping centres is as varied and good as anywhere. We have theatres, musicians , bands, appearing even Elton John ventured over here for a concert in December! The resturants over here are as good if not better than some of the top resturants anywhere and they are cheaper. The weather is great we do have seasons but it is never very cold. We have been having temperatures throughout the Summer in the mid 20's which if you have to work in it is very pleasent. We have had up to 34 but boy is that hot and having to work in it pleased it 's not that everyday. All in all everyone is so friendly . We have had no trouble in fitting in and love it over here There is no other place like it long may it stay like this
Hopefully Herbster will be in touch as just visited Tasmania .
Check out web site T-change - for your sea change or tree change to Tasmania it has quite a bit of information in Tasmania

My uncle has lived there for 15 years and loves it - he thinks I am mad moving to Sydney as he hates the manic cities - a;thjough obviously sees the attraction for someone like me. He is however older tham me and has a wife and 3 kids whereas I am a single bloke in his late twenties looking for different things. Will be going to see him on May so will give my views then. Sounds very nice down there, just a bit quiet for my tastes just now.

taz

Hi

I would second anything that Colin R has said, though my experience is much more limited. Colin R - I would be really interested in getting in touch as we have now got our visas through and as I understand you have the experience of taking a teenage son over to Taz - advice would be appreciated.

Wendy
