Hi Jenny,
Do you mind saying what is your ocupation that you don't find easy to get in Tass?
I am going under the visa 136 and my husband occupation is on demand there. The immi have assured me that if it is on demand I should have the privelige to choose where to work!

i work within the media industry, that's why it's difficult over there...
one thing that wasn't mentioned here is that there's no sunday shopping in Tas (at least there wasn't any in 2002) apart from a couple of bakeries.
No we ate at Salamanca and other restaurants on the evening - because of our son we werent out late but on occassion till around 10pm and they seemed pretty busy then but many dont start serving until 6, I imagine Salamanca serves during the day its just we were generally out and about during the day. Hope this helps.
There is sunday shopping now at least in and around Hobart - they were even open until 10pm on sundays for groceries, I think some shops shut soomer though on a Sunday.
Location: Molesworth TAS, 1/2hr west of Hobart in the bush surrounded by gum & wattles!

Work in Tassie?
Howdee!
Is anyone actually well settled & happily working in Tass? How easy was that?
What's it like Up North? Penguin, Burnie etc?
Has anyone ever built - or is planning on building their own home?
I don't think there's an ice rink within 25 miles of us here, - is there one in Newcastle??!
Apart from friends & family what do you wish you'd bought with you from UK (that you can't find there?)??

Hi do you mind me asking? what occupation you are going to Tas with? My husband is a painter and decorator and we are hoping to go to Tas on a 136 visa but he worries about how much work there will be. His occupation is on the demand list but we still wonder. Do you have any advice? Jane

Hi,
my husband is a chef, i believe in Tas is easier to get a job when you know already someone to recommend you, at least that is what I was told by a resident and elder of a church in Tas. Tas is small and everybody knows each other, so your work. Would be a good idead to meet up people with the same interests as you who are already in Tas and keep in touch , they will help you to be known in the comunity.
hope it helps.

my husband also is a p & d, we applied for a 137 in june, i cannot really speak from actually applying for jobs, but i have kept an eye on jobs since christmas advertised in the papers and they consistently advertise for painters, (you hardley see any advertised in birmingham) so we re hoping it wont be too difficult, certainly the resettlement officer didnt think so as the state nominated us. let me know how you get on. i notice that p 7 d are now on the modl list for the whole of australia (july 07) - previously they were just on the tasmanian in demand list.
