Thinking of moving to Tassie

Hi there

I'm thinking of moving from Byron Bay way to Tasmania
I spent a few months there and really really loved it, its my fave bit of Oz I know.
Is work hard to secure? Are wages good or not bad?
I have acclimatised to nthn NSW temps now so know it'll be nippy. Is the climate pretty similar to UK.

Are you glad you chose Tasmania

Could you list good/bad things

Big thanks
Tanya

Think of the climate in Tassie more like Portugal than the UK - Latitude 41 degrees same as Rome and Lisbon.
PersonallyI love the place (I must been here 40 years)

Sorry missed the bad things
expense of fares to mainland to go and watch AFL or big theatre shows
Sea water a little chilly to swim in

Hi,

I grew up in Tassie and it really is great. The weather is much more like the UK than the rest of Oz and everything is much closer. If you like the outdoor life its fantastic as there are so many beaches and bushwalks and things to do that don't cost any money. Property isn't bad either, but the wages are lower than the mainland compared to the cost of living.

It depends on what job you do, but if you search the careerone site then theres a lot on there. They have skills shortages in a lot of trades though and I had a meeting with a recruitment agency when I went out last year- basically if you have the skills and work hard, then you'll find a job no problem!

Eva

Hi Tanya,

Not a prob; if you have any other questions let me know! The nicest part of Tassie (my personal opinion of course!) is the channel region- from Kingston down to Kettering- its close to Hobart for commuting- renting is pretty good and there are still good priced properties. Its near to the beach but still close to all the shops. That's where I'm planning to move to.

It's always worth a shot to see if you like it! Tassie is a lot different to the mainland; you'll notice the difference straight away if you move down there. At the end of the day, you need to go where you are happiest. I want to be closer to my family and when I have kids I want a better life for them. It's hard leaving family wherever they are; but its only a flight away- it takes longer to drive from Brisbane to Melbourne! There's things I'll miss about the UK, but I'll be back for holidays no doubt....
