We are hoping to fly 3rd September - all being well, and would love further information on clubs etc - I have looked at this

canberra.yourguide.com.au

which is quite helpful, but welcome all other views!

Many Thanks in advance

Hi all,

I just moved to Canberra on Sept 7th on a 496 Skilled Designated Area-Sponsored (Provisional) visa. I am having a tough time finding any job openings in IT that are even willing to interview me as they seem to be reading the provisional part in my visa as if I am not intending on staying here. The only reason I am on a provisional visa is that they changed the rules to say they wouldn't issue permanent visas any more for my classification until you have been in the country for 2 years with at least 12 months in employment.

I fear I may be stuck in catch 22 but will keep my fingers crossed that something comes up soon. I am currently staying at my cousins place in Theodore but I will be looking for my own pad as soon as I can secure a job.

Hi Gill,

Sorry to hear your not having much luck, my fingers are crossed for you. We are still waiting on sponsorship, things are a bit slow. Are you enjoying what Canberra has to offer? Have you visited anywhere else in Oz?

Good Luck

Hi Elaine & Chris,

We will be moving to Canberra! Just had word we have sponsorship now just sending visa apps. There seems to be quite an few people heading that way now, so you should get a few replies. How far are you with your application?

Hi Lovstad,

The good news is that the Royal navy keep individual personnel records for 100 years. Your OH should be able to request to Fleet HQ for his documents under the 'Freedom of Information Act' it will only cost the price of a stamp and he should get an answer within 20 to 40 days.

As for us, I am laterally transferring from the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy and am just awaiting my formal letter offering me a job (they told me it was on its way 3 weeks ago!) and then we will send in the visa application. What are you and your OH going to be doing in Canberra and when do you expect that you will be over there?

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. We are going on Darrens job as Bt engineer. I work at a bank. We haven't found any jobs yet as they will not look at taking Darren on until we become permanent residents. We are hoping to be there next May.

Smile Hi everyone, We are going to Canberra....

Hi everyone!
We have just sent off our TRA paperwork to our migration agents, and am looking forward to the next stage, which i think is the state sponsorship bit, Does anyone know what this bit is??
We are new to this site, and have been on loads of different sites looking for people like us who are going to the ACT, there is so much for Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth etc, but we have really stuggled to find anyone like us!
We are going to visit my sister ( Who has been in perth for 3 months) in March and are flying over to Canberra to look at areas etc, we have absolutley no idea where to start, We have 2 little ones, Jasmine is nearly 8 and India is 3, so need somewhere with schooling etc....My husband Phil is a Printer and his job is on the "in demand" list in ACT, so are going for the STNI 137 state sponsored visa....
Would be lovely to hear from anyone like us.....
Zoe x
