Hiya

We're off in September and are hoping to go to Belconnen - I think that's how it's spelt!

Where will you be working?? In the City Centre??

Hi there,
Well we moved to Macgregor, it's ok but Kippax (the nearest shops) is a hole. and the neighbouring suburb Charnwood is the worst and probably the roughest. The South side of Canberra is a little more refined compared to where we are in the north. You may find though that it's quite dificult to find somewhere as we did and just take the only one that was ok, house wise. We even found that we had to bid for the rent when viewing a rental property. We are paying $400pw for a 4 bedroom house. hope this is helpful.

Thanks Kelly!

I'm looking at gungahlin and belconnen at the moment (apologies for the spelling!) - all 'pie in the sky' at the moment though - we're going to be in Defence Forces Housing when we get there - which is still quite hard to come by and we may have to take what's available.

Still waiting on Visas at the moment though.................

Thanks again

Angie

http://canberra.yourguide.com.au/det...tory_id=560759 you might find this story in the canberra times useful for the areas to avoid. We are hopefully moving to canberra aound christmas and my oh will be working in fyshwick too. Queanbeyan and surrounds just over the state line is quite nice, if you want a village feel and dont mind a little bit of a drive into work the take a look at Bungendore.

Thats good, not long then!. Belconnen is nice and is very close the Westfield (big shopping center)! And there are some very nice resturants there along by Lake Ginnindera, on the waters front. We are living in Macgregor, about 10 min drive from belconnen and 20 minutes from the city. All things in Canberra are no more than 25 minutes drive from each other, thats a fact. Think the city was built with that in mind. I hope you like it. once your settled let me know and we can meet up and chat all thing Canberrean! That goes for anyone else moving into ACT too. Would be nice if we could all meet to chat about our experiences.

Kelly
