Tasmania IT Work

We’re serious about emigrating to OZ and so I guess it’s sensible to ask the following of anyone who has had experience of recently moving over Tasmania as this looks like a lovely place.

The crucial question is what’s the IT jobs market like in Tasmania?
What’s the employment market like in general?
What’s the pros & cons of Tasmania

Hi Homer

We are in our last stages of out visa application. Just had our Medicals was informed today by the clinic that they will be sent off to Oz today, so I guess it won't be long now until we hopefully get it!
Any way nough bout us! We visited Tas last year to see for ourselves what its like and we absolutely loved it! The place is soooooo beautiful its unbeleivable. Very green so they get lots more rainfall than the mainland (but hey we're used to that right?) We hired a car and did pretty much most of the island, we prefered Hobart the capital of Tas. It has so much character and has a lovely harbour. What excites me about Tas is that the tourist industry is in its infancy out there, so there is so much scope to start your own business. If you had a B and B for instance you'd be guaranteed income as its nigh impossible to get accomodation in and around Hobart at the weekends. The people are all very friendly and all were intrigued as to why us brits were visiting, they aren't used to seeing tourists outside of Australia.
We have a 3 year old and like the fact that Tas has very low crime rates and the schools have exceptional standards and have good old fashioned values.
Tas has a very low population so there are no traffic jams. As for the weather well in summer its hotter than the UK and I'm told that in the mountainous parts you can get all 4 seasons in one day! In the winter it rarely gets below 0 deg C in the bult up areas, and you are guaranteed snow in the mountains. They hav four seasons which appeals to me as I love Spring and Autumn.
Whilst we were out there my other half enquired about possible jobs and got offered a job at each company he went to. He's a Heavy Plant Fitter as its called over here out there they call it Diesel Mechanic ( You know diggers dumpers and such like). We decided to go against company sponsorsip as you will be tied to that company for at least 2 years. We decided to go independantly that way he will have the pick of the crop.
Before we went out there we went to an Oz expo in London and talked to someone from the Tasmanian Gov. whom we kept intouch with ever since. When we went to Tas we met up with her and discussed possible options and she put us intouch with a terrific Solicitor who has been an absolute godsend (couldn't have done it without him). During our application the lady at the Tas Gov gave us State Nomination which I think basically means you get rushed through a bit quicker as you have the backing of the State.
I guess I've covered everything except IT jobs, I'm sure you'll have no trouble. If you're still considering Tas I could put you intouch with the woman at the Tas Gov and perhaps she could send you some info on IT jobs or give you some idea on job prospects.
