Its the left-wing s pain in the arses do-gooder that have made "paki" and "chinaman" racist words...god I hate them.. If we kicked up a fuss like these pathetic morons we could make "pommie" a racist word, but Brits are easy going and do not give a toss to be honest.
I agree that the PC brigade have gone OTT in the Uk to the extent where they are actively discriminating against white Britons, however, one of my mates boyfriends was from India and he didn't have a problem with being addressed as Indian or Asian but was deeply offended when people referred to him as a paki and considered it racist, as most Indians do. I don't use the term and if that makes me a 'do-gooder' then that's fine by me (rant over!)
I can understand an Indian getting the hump about being called a Pakki. Its like when I was in America a lot of the septics thought i was Australian!!!!
" POM" is not a racist word it stands for " prisoner of mother England" which convicts had stamped on their uniforms, theres nothing racist about that. Also most Austrlians who call English people POMS are of British ancestory themselves, so how can you be racist against people of the same race as yourselves?
I dont think anyone actually knows what POM stands for, there are different webites giving different meanings. ie Property Of His Magesty (POHM).
Again, I think it depends on the way it is used. I dont have any problem being called a POM, and sometimes refer to myself as a POM.

I think it helps to understand the differences between "racial" and "racist"
Hi,
Is it not the Australians themselves who are poms? ie. Prisoners of her Majesty?
When the word' pom' is used in reference to me by an Ozzie I don't find it offensive at all!

Pommy" (or "pom" or "pommie") is a primarily Australian (and largely derisive) slang term used to indicate a recent immigrant from Great Britain, or a Brit in general. The origins of "pommy" having been lost in the mists of time, someone needed to cook up an etymology for it, preferably one equal to the pejorative sense of the word. Accordingly, we now have the story that criminals transported to Australia were designated "Prisoners of His Majesty" or "Prisoners of Mother England" (some versions claim the convicts bore one of these legends printed on the backs of their shirts), and thus the acronym "POHM" or "POME" eventually evolved into the slang term "pom" or "pommy."
This amusing anecdote is doubtful as anything more than a fanciful invention, as acronymic origins antedating the mid-twentieth century are automatically suspect, and the use of "pommy" has been recorded at least as far back as 1915. Moreover, nobody has yet turned up corroborating evidence that "Prisoner of His Majesty" or "Prisoners of Mother England" were actually common designations for criminals transported to Australia. The best guess at this time is that "pommy" was based on the word "pomegranate" -- either because the redness of the fruit supposedly matched the typically florid British complexion, or because (like "Johnny Grant") it was used as rhyming slang for "immigrant."
Put it this way, there is little chance of the 'c' word being banned. However, most people regardless of their nationality are considerably more offended when they are called this word. Why won't it ever be banned? Because it's not racist. The Racism thing is out of control and I think more people are getting sick to their back teeth of the 'racism card' being played. And I am not just referring to the white Brits. I am friendly with many people with different backgrounds and the majority are also fed up with this small ridiculous minority ruining it for the rest of us. All the time there's this tiny percentage who don't have anything better to do than cause arguments amongst those who really don't care and want to get on with their lives, then we can never move on. We need to stop using terms like 'ethnic minorities' as this instantly isolates people for actually no reason whatsoever.
And relax........

Those of you who are ignorant of the facts, the filthy term 'Pakki' and 'Wog' are offensive to people because they were born in a time when racial disputes WERE prevalent. 'Pakki' for example was used a lot in the 1960's to demonise those coming from India and Pakistan to the UK and many of them who were beaten were often chanted to again and again to this term many of which died due to the beatings - it's not a term to be taken lightly.
'Wog' was used way back 'Wily Originated Gentleman' for african originated people and again is a derogatory term used for the slaves. 'Golly' used here in Oz is a reference to 'spit'. When you think of the word 'Gollywog' make your own assumptions - it's not pretty, it's not nice and just because you refer to 'Wog' for a different group of people in Oz (ie Italians) actually makes no difference whatsoever! You are using a filthy term to segregate people of a different ethinicity.
Ozzies are not racist i think (i hope) because that connotes a degree of hatred and i firmly believe that they don't HATE people of different ethinicity - but they have an air of superiority. My 11 year old neice came here for a holiday and we went skiing. After going back to the lodge one afternoon, friends who we were sharing the lodge made a joke about tabogonists and one of the children yelled out 'It wasn't just a tabogonist - it was an ASIAN tabogonist!' to which everyone fell about laughing. My neice could not see what was so funny about it and kept asking 'Why is that funny? He could have been australian too' and i found it very embarassing having to explain to her that things were different here to home in front of those that found it funny.
The term 'Pome' i find ironic - doesn't it stand for 'Prisoner Of Mother England'? And yet Ozzies are the ones who are chained to the crown.
I love the lifestyle here but Ozzies have to be prepared to take a slap or two from the outside world for being ignorant of the terminology. I can't believe they don't teach you the etamology of words here - even your history syllabus fails to acknowledge inportant historical events ie 'The Stolen Genereation'. Can't your government see how important it would be to helping kids understand why there is such a cultural divide between the aboriginal and european ozzie?
Ozzies certainly are not racist in my humble opinion; ignorant and xenophobic - yes.
