Yeh thats right oz is on regional 4. Is there such a thing as an all region dvd player. I get it mine will play on my dvd player but to watch dvds bought in oz that would mean a new dvd player right.
Yep DVD's bought in Oz will most likely have to be played on an oz dvd player. Look on the back on your existing dvd player and see if it has a symbol of a globe thing with a number in it. If there is no number it will play ALL dvds, if a number on it, it will only play dvd's for that region. You can buy multi region dvd players here for about $50 so no problem.
You can probably de-regionalize the dvd player you have got - check here DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes Often they are as simple as using the remote to enter a code. I have deregionalized a couple of LG dvd players with no problems at all. Otherwise yes, you will need a different region player to play dvds from a different region.

Thanks for all your replies guys, it has put my mind at rest, I wil bring all of my dvds with me, cheers, there are some very clever peeps on here. xx
Australian DVD players are multi region (one good thing the Oz govt stamped down on) so you can play your dvd's on them. You can obviously play them on your own dvd if you import it BUT you won't be able to play Oz region 4 dvd's on your dvd player (unless it's multi region too).
I would recommend you don't buy a cheapo dvd player from Coles, BigDub, Target or the likes as they are cheap for a reason , they are sh*te.
Why pay $3000 for a hi def tv then push a $40 dvd signal thru it??
