Why not have a garage sale instead, get all your booty together, make up some signs and give it a go! They are really popular over here you might start a new trend and if you are selling your house you might also get some people wanting to view at the same time!
Thats a good idea LOL, buy my house and I will for free throw in all my crap!!! saves packing it doesnt it!

We had one ages ago and people wanted to buy my house and it wasn't even up for sale, my garden was full of Daffodils at the time and people also asked if they could buy some cuttings! lol i never sold the house though, but it was a nice day
Hi there we had an Ebayathon recently and spent a saturday and sunday afternoon listing stuff we'd hoarded in our garage. 17 items were listed, 15 sold and we made 770 quid!! We've also done a car boot sale and took 120 quid. We've still got loads more stuff, but we have realised that some things sell better at car boot sales ( kids toys, clothes, etc) and other things are better on Ebay. Good luck remember every penny helps!

Fortunately Pete loves junk! He bought a 70's round TV about 15 years ago which has sat in our garage as it's too big really to have in the house. 45 seconds from the end of the auction the winning bid was £59 and it ended up selling for £311!! We also sold some motorbike boots and motorbike spares for £200 and some old light fittings for £50 each plus other bits and bobs for smaller amounts. We've still got to sell a childs motorbike and quad bike so that will hopefully get put towards another flight ticket! I don't know about anyone else, but clearing away all our excess stuff is proving very therapeutic for me.

I used ebay for selling bigger things that I am pretty sure will sell, but not so much for smaller items. For example I cleared out a cupboard the other day and had ten series of Friends videos that I don't watch any more. I looked on e-bay and saw that there were tons of these being offered for 50p each (and not selling) so I Freecycled them. The lady that collected them was really pleased and I no longer had the dilema of what to do with them. They'll probably end up at a boot sale, but e-bay really wasn't worth the hassle!
We have done 2 car boots which is a great way to shift stuff for a few quid. the way we looked at it we don't want to ship it so some cash is better than nothing. Not holding out for a really good price meant in 2 car boots we shifted 2 estate cars worth of stuff and made abour £350.
I've used ebay as well. As someone else has said its not that quick and can be a bit of a hassle but I have got good money for a few things and at least a bit for some others. Worth doing quite a few items together and spending an hour listing them. Then when they end you can do the packaging and posting together.
Also if you have items that are larger and you can't sell there is always freecycle which is a free service where you can give items away. We have an old piano which isn't worth much if anything and I've given it away to a charity group who were desparate for it. At least I know it is going to a good home.

Hi All
Agree with Pete and Lou, one of the best ways to get rid of stuff is carboot sales, even though it involves getting up at 5am on a Sunday morning, its worth it. We've sold loads of collectors stuff on ebay in the past, but we find the fees that ebay charges can kill any profit sometimes.

I'm just clearing out my excess wardrobe! I have far too many clothes it's unreal. Thanks for thread about childrens toys and clothes at boot sales. Good tip. I normally pass clothes onto other little girls of friends. But my friends girls are getting bigger than mine! I have noticed that kids clothes on e-bay doesn't sell as well as adults clothes. I think us women just like a bargain! Where as you can pop to primark and pick up a whole wardrobe for £50 for a kid!
Once I've sold all the clothes, kids shoes etc., then I will tackle the loft. I know this is going to take some months, before all the clutter has gone, that's why I'm starting now!!
Good luck to all of you who are trying to clear out before they go. It'll be worth it in the end, not so much to pack and take with you x x x
