Do we take Furniture or Buy New???
Hi Guys,
We have just strated on thelong road to getting our Visa and after going to s seminar were told that it is quite expensive to move furniture and also wooden furniture inparticular is expensive to send due to the fact it has to be 'treated'!!
Leaving us with the question should we just sell everything here and buy new or forward it to Oz??
Any advice greatly appreciated?
Thanks

Well we are shipping some stuff like tvs sterios my husbands music studio equipment due to the fact it would cost us a damn sight more to replace them in aus. However we are taking no furniture figuring we may as well have a fresh start for example my removal man told me our couch would work out at £250 to ship so the $500 we save on shipping it will go a long way to buying a new one.

Thanks for the info.
I noteice your Visa was very quickly processed and approved, do you mind if I ask what Visa you applied for and who you used to get it?
Thanks

I did the visa process myself because it was a nice straightforward spouse visa. Hence the timescale.
Actually we watched my wedding dvd last night and I can be heard when MIL asks about living in Aus saying when hell freezes over..... How things have changed lol

I wish the process was that straight forward for us???
The Migration Agent we have used who I felt was the best of what we looked at, has received an awful write up on here, so now I'm getting worried??!!!
Good luck to you and your family, hopefully we'll be there soon too!!!

our bed, settee, dining table + chairs washing machine, dishwasher, bedding etc are at least 6 years old and the tv and dvd wont work over there and dont need a tumble dryer cos of decent weather to dry your clothes , and the mither of cleaning our bikes to import , we are taking nothing as above as its probably not worth £3000 in total, just sending the sentimental stuff ,and who knows could sell some of the items and could pay for some of the above in ikea in oz

We have thought about this alot. We have gone from taking nothing to taking everything!!!I have read all the threads saying how expensive furniture is over there so we have decided to take most things. We are taking beds, bikes, chest of drawers, pots and pans ,pictures and clothes!!! You may aswell get a 20ft container and fill it until it cant be filled any more. We have also read how expensive quilt covers and towels and even SOCKS. So we are going to stock up and fill that container!!! With four children we dont feel like we can fill a couple of boxes, we have sooooo many memories that we have to take with us for their sake!!!
Love

We are doing the same, most of our stuff is either old or second hand anyway. I don't see the point in paying good money to ship it over. Plus we haven't got a spare £3000 anyway!
We plan to sell our stuff and put it towards the cost of buying new/second hand stuff in Oz x

I have found furniture to be cheaper over here and of decent quality....however ....you couldnt furnish a standard house for 3k I dont think.
Each to there own but If you are shipping some stuff you might as well bring it all over.
