I feel like there is so much to be done but without knowing exactly when we are going I don't know where to start or what to do. I stopped working to go off on our reccy and really have no motivation to get going again, I have taken some work but I am not enjoying it.

We're pretty skint and trying not to touch savings so have no nights out etc. planned but to be honest i don't even feel like being sociable. It's like I don't want to be happy in Scotland any more. People have hinted we should be planning a big party before we go but I can't face that idea at all.

Is this normal during the 'we're going but don't know when phase'??

Jules

Hi Jules

I moved from East Calder near Livingston with my hubby and 2 girls (7 & 9) back in March. We are currently in Tas but are bored so are now planning a move to Brisbane.

The emotions you are going through are par for the course i'm afraid.
One day you'll be hyper that your moving..and the next day you'll be thinking OMG I don't want to go.

As soon as your visa is granted and the flights are booked, it will be all systems go and you will start to look forward to the move.
Have a leaving night, we did....with about 30 close friends and family at a local Indian restaurant and it was great.

Good luck, and feel free to ask any other advice.

By the way, we used Doree Bonnar removals, and they were fab. Highly recommend them. Crown were a rip off!!

Hi Jules,
The whole process is a roller coaster, and it doesn't stop when you get on the plane! I moved from Edinburgh to Brisbane on the 1st Sept and after all the hassle and stress of getting here (I was sponsored on 457 too) you then go through a whole range of different emotions when you get here - I think it's just part of re-locating across the other side of the world, you just have to keep in mind your reasons for doing this..and remind yourself when you feel a little low, be it over there or over here. Good Luck with everything. As for international carriers, we used Crown and they are expensive and don't provide the premium service they claim to; their customer service is shocking, once they have your money you just end up chasing them for updates, however we also met someone who used Doree B. and they had a similar experience so I think it's pot luck...just make sure you take full insurance cover out.

Jules and others,
I think I must be one of the luckier ones as apart from one day in the UK before we left and a day over here when work was REALLY busy, I haven't had a downer or negative thoughts about the entire process from 1st telephone interview throught the visa stage to now.
The entire process from the interview to getting the 457 approved (sponsored) and getting on the plane only took about 8 weeks so I didn;t have a lot of time to get the blues - although I should have been a bit down as I was then out of work.
My OH seemed to be well up for the big move but on the night I got the e-mail from the migration lawyer with the 457 approved status details, I woke her up at 2am to give her the news and was prompty told 'Oh, I feel sick' !!
She did suffer with the roller-coaster of emotions for the next few weeks, which was not helped with my MIL's very negative attitude towards the move - having said that she came around in the last few days we were in the UK and wished us well. She has now applied for her first passport and should be coming to Oz for a visit in February. Just goes to show how people can change.

I read somewhere that you really should have a going away party as you will regret it later on if you don't. It gives all the friends and family a chance to say their farewells. The same article also said you need to get them involved in some of the organising of the farewell bash.
We had a relatively quiet do, but it was organised by the famly and went well. At least when you get on the plane to come over to Oz you are not left thinking 'I never said goodbye properly to ...whoever'
I think like others have said, you really have to keep infocus why you wanted to make the big move in the first place and put the negatives and 'what-ifs' out of the equation.

Good luck and we hope you get here safely and enjoy it.
