The fact is Australia needs immigration for economic growth and if it was not the case there would not be any Visas available!

What a ray of sunshine you are....have i seen you in the high street with a sandwhich board shouting the end is nigh?

I see what your saying but no one really knows whats gonna happen and you are only speculating on the global economic crisis. With regards to annomosity towards immigrants. I have know problem with immigrants in England and i believe the majority of people in this country feel the same....what they arnt happy with are huge number of illegal immigrants sponging off this country and the others that earn the money and then shipp it out of the country......The average Australian who sees a family or couple working hard and putting back into their economy will not object, however if we sit on our arses and sponge like alot do here then im all for the annomosity. you will always get the ones that dont like immigrants be it good times or bad.

so to the question you ask.....Na i aint bothered.
The global financial crisis is a done deal, so yes, if you are paying attention you would have a pretty good idea of how it's going to unravel. I understand what you say about the large number of immigrants in England who sponge off the system. It is shocking and appalling and England has been all but destroyed by the stupidity of governments not dealing with this. Likewise, are you aware that there are MANY English people who have moved to Australia and sponged off the system as well? This is just a fact and worth understanding. Australia is on the brink of joining the global financial crisis in a very ugly way. Unemployment is on the increase and Aussies are getting reports showing that foreigners are being allowed in with 'qualifications' such as 'hairdresser' and even 'sex worker'. This stuff has been in the newspapers and as unemployment increases and costs spiral and home equity plummets there will be a backlash against immigrants, who are already highly unpopular amongst many Aussies. Many Australians are keenly aware that the Brits have allowed their own country to be destroyed by stupid immigration policy and are very very angry about more immigrants coming in. Just because the GOVERNMENT wants to bring in more immigrants (the goal being to increase job competition and drive wages DOWN) does not mean the ordinary bloke agrees with it. I am just interested about whether people planning on immigrating to Australia have given thought to this current and upcoming environment.

That is neither true (regardless of the reasons the government chooses to espouse) nor is it reasonable in the minds of many average Aussies.

So let me get this straight, your saying most of the English going out to Oz have at some point sponged off the system? So are you saying that we sit on our arses all day every day doing f**k all???

What kind of a cretin would dribble on like this???

Yes there quite probably is going to be a world recession! Does that stop people wanting to live and work in different countries? Nope. Think you'd better take a better look at the people in England or even more correct the UK and realise that we don't all sit on our arses.

Think you may well have a few more fruity replies to this one as well mate!!!!

Where in my post did I say 'most' English? I did not say that. However you will find that MANY Aussies KNOW English people who have sponged off the system and THAT will influence their opinions in a time of economic stress. You are very aggressive and need to brush up on your comprehension skills I think.

OZ has massive mineral wealth of Gold, iron Ore , coal ,natural gas etc which the UK does not have. So its possible that the Uk could go into recession but Australia's economy remains booming if demand from China for its resources continues.

I moved to Australia when in 1970 with my parents from the UK.The aussies (and before anyone shoots me down I do have aussie children)did'nt like the poms coming in then (Yes we even had our fair share of racial abuse)so why would they change now?Take my home town where I lived. It was all white,(pop 1500)last time I spoke to my best mate who lives in the town, she toldme they have had a huge number of vietnamese move into the town (the local abbatoir had a major expansion)and its causing alot of unrest with the locals.Like I have said before I left Oz 10 years ago and it has changed alot even where I used to live in that time.

It would be lovely if that were true - Australia's economy has stopped booming. It wont take long for the Chinese to find cheaper options for accessing what they want either so we cant rely forever on the boom of the resources industry.

Like it or not, we are already seeing the impact on jobs - it is a daily feature of the newspapers (except when they are on strike because of the significant job cuts to hit their industry) and whilst we would all happily consign journos to the same planet as the telephone sanitizers the same has been true for the motor industry and the aviation industry in recent weeks to name just two.

I think Winterbunny is absolutely on the right track - you dont have to have lived here for very long in bad times to see what Joe Blow on the street thinks about migrants - and then is the time to keep your head down and your accent hidden!

Edited to add - it was the unskilled "fruit pickers" being recruited to enter the country which raised the collective ire this week!
