Well, the hubby has gone and done it. He's got his first speeding ticket to the cost of $227 and three points on his licence !!!!!!!!!!!! He's so naughty. They dont have signs to warn you about the cameras here in Victoria and more often than not they are in unmarked cars in laybys, side lanes etc., so watch out when your driving. Most people I speak too have been caught or now someone who has. I dont condone speeding but it was about 5.45 in the morning on a long stretch of road, which changes its speed frequently along that stretch (another thing to look out for too!!!) and obviously it caught him out. So watch your speed (as well as all the other crazy drivers they have here) Sally-ann

Hi Sallyann
My hubby got his speeding fine 4 hours after arriving in the country! Again the speed limit had changed for no apparent reason and we didnt notice.
He wrote a letter and had to get prove from the DVLA that he'd had a clean license for over 25yrs and he was let off.
Thanks for the advice peeps... It might be worth a try, pleading ignorance and all that. Knowing our luck, it wiil be get "tough week", but for the cost of a stamp, i'll get writing straight away. Cheers! Sally-ann

It's worth a try. I got stopped for speeding once doing 62 in a 50k zone. In my defense I was going down hill. We had just had major work done on the car so I knew the state of our bank account and felt ill at the thought of a speeding ticket. I must've gone white because the cop was practically begging me for an excuse to let me off but I couldn't think of a single excuse and stayed silent while he went back to his car to check on my record. In the silence my six year old son asked "Will he put you in handcuffs now, Mum?"
I think he was disappointed when it didn't happen. I did get off long ago by telling the cop I'd been driving for 8 hours and just didn't notice the speed change, but I was younger and cuter then.

We have got out of many parking fines by just writing to them.
One was in StKilda, we parked went to pay but all the machines were vandalized, (cue Earlswood) we got a ticket in the mail.
I sent them a cheque for the $2 parking fee pointing out the fact that all the machines were broken as they would have known.
I got the cheque back with an apology.
Another time we were parked legally but the parking officer must have miss read the sign, or thought we were stupid, again a letter was sent and the matter was dropped..
