That title should say been a while, sorry cant change it!!!
Hi everyone,
I used to frequent on PIO back in the day but kinda got a bit side tracked when we came to leave uk so it has been a while. But here we are settled in OZ and with the Internet YEY!! and just wanted to check in with you guys to see how everyones doing and say hi to all the newbies.
As u can see from the title we are loving oz, we have been here exactly a month today and have never looked back. For those of you who are going through the goodbyes stick with it as I never thought I could do it, but I did and they wernt as bad as I thought. So far there hasnt been many bad days as I wake up to glorious sunshine and open mybedroom door out onto our balcony ovelooking a pool and how can u be miserable. WE are in Trinity Beach which is a beach suburb north of cairns and it is amazing, so chilled out and relaxed, Im gonna have to big up Cairns as not a lot of people on PIO mention it and if u are looking for a chilled out life near a beach but near enough to the city and u wanna get away from the rat race then cairns is theplace, obviously there is pros and cons with everything but so far I cant come across any cons, but have been told that the summers (dec/jan) are mega hot and humid so will see. At the min the weather is sunny and around 27 degrees so we spend most of our days around the pool orat the beach. Have made loads of friends and every weekend weve been here weve had a bbq at 1 our friends houses, it was our turn monday for OHs bday and we did pretty well for our 1st time!!!
Hubby got a job straight away literally 2 weeks within being here and is loving it, daughter started a private school yesterday and it only costs $4000 dollars per year! There is jobs a plenty over here. Prices are overall the same as in the uk,but beer and wine mega cheap got a 5 litre box of white wine for $10 which works out at £1 per litre and it isnt cheap nasty stuff it is ok for a everyday wine!
Only thing Imiss is clothes shops, from Primark to Topshop, they are pretty crap overhere but im still exploring so hopefully will find some good ones.
Think thats all for now just wanted to give you guys a positive taste of things in Oz know how frustrating it is when ur waiting and i used to love reading poisitive threads to keep me going.
Good luck to everyone going through "the process" you will get there in the end and believe me it really is all worth it!!

Glad to hear that you are happy and settling in well in Cairns, we went up there on holiday a couple of years ago and loved it too, loads of things to do and see, we went on the Daintree and Mosman gorge, Port Douglas, cape tribulation etc., etc., what a lovely place to live.
What a lovely read it was sounds like you have found the perfect place for yourself and your family! 27 Degrees wow, how beautiful and this is your winter too I believe!!

Welcome & Congratulations
Hya:
Great to see you are settling in so well Lisa. Bit of a change from Newcastle, although it's not so bad these days, has some good shopping so I appreciate you missing that! We arrived in Tass a week before you and are doing OK. It is definitely Winter here, we've had frosts, perhaps not so severe as we had in Hadrian's Country, but even near the water it's been chilly. But we have much more sun, and character to the weather, if weather can have such things, and the view over the gorgeous D'Entrecasteaux Channel has got to be worth all the upheaval. Did your furniture arrive ok & who did you use?
Good to know school's a hit too, I'm sure peeps with kids are particularly worried about that, but I'm sure they are very good, although kids might have to get used to wearing some unusual outfits!
Gotta get the supper, I have a little job, too, which could develop; OH's just starting the search in earnest & is doing a course starting tomorrow, which I'm sure will inspire him,,, Well, I hope will!!! If you want laid back & cool, in more ways than one, then Tassie has it in spades!
Keep being Happy,
Cheers,
