There are people who come into my pub who have lived in Cumbria for the best part of 50 years and have never been into the lakes!
I think sometimes you never no whats on your doorstep until you havnt got it anymore. For me though.......i have only lived here for a few years and am not from cumbria....I have used cumbria for making money, the price of property when i brought was rock bottom but now has risen dramatically (pubs not residential) I have very little competion around me and i do what i do well so its easy for me to walk away from this lovely part of the Uk. Its great to come here on holiday but not so great when you work like i do.
Some will say the same for Oz......great place to holiday but not to live but i will be the judge of that!

It's the media that help drive the boom/bust cycles, particularly in the UK. Granted markets are slowing down and that's just how it might continue if the media didn't sensationalise everything; conversely, the media had a lot to do with driving up house prices to overinflated levels....I'm in the conspiracy theory camp that the more trouble the media can stir up, the more stories there are to report on....and so the circle of economics and media goes on.

The problem you have GD is not that people will not want to buy your business. Its more a case of the financial houses won't lend the money in order for someone to buy it. Its the problem everyone has at the moment trying to sell up and move downunder. Buyers are unable to get mortgages unless they can put down a large deposit. This deposit will come from them selling their house. But no one can buy their house because no one will give them the mortgage to do it unless they have a large deposit and so on down the chain. This goes back to the first time buyer that cannot get a mortgage full stop. Well not unless they have been saving for years.

In short unless the banks start lending money (which they are not willing to do at the moment) then we are all up $**t creek without the proverbial paddle.

OOh I love the lakes, my parents have a mobile home (caravan to me and you, but my mum thinks shes posh!) up there and we are off there for a week at the end of July, hmmmm, you are not disclosing where you are, how about some sort of code, as every pub/restaurant I go in Im going to think might be yours, so if you see me ask me if Id tied me kangaroo down, and I will know its you!

Hang on though, how will you know its me.....?
