Bitten in the night as I slept....any nurses or doctors can tell me what bit me on thumb....how long have I got to live....and how long till I will be able to use my hand as the girlfriend is away for a week.
Swelling is about half the size again as on photo.

hmmmmm that's a little worrying.....I would be seeking medical attention if I were you?
As for how soon you will be able to use your hand....have you only got the one hand?

Ew!
I think you probably ought to take yourself off to a real doctor! If the bite has two little puncture marks then it is most likely to be a spider. If only one, then it isnt (thought what the hell you have in your place that would be as nasty as that is beyond me). If the red goes any further up your arm get to a doctor even faster.

Well Earlswood, I was just about to say 'no one can argue with you on that one, as that is the only guarantee in life' !!
But blimey that bite looks nasty
ok here goes, the wound looks open to me by the pic, so do not put any cream on it, put a cold compress (flannel) on it. Take a antihismine tablet incase you are having an allergic reaction against it, and a painkiller (if you need one).
Good luck and dont forget to see a doc if it get any worse or if you feel sick and faint !!
Hi Earlswood, I agree with Rachel on seeking some medical attention as it appears quite nasty.
Whatever it has that has bitten you has either left you with a nasty bit of poison or you have had a nasty reaction to it. It looks like it might be infected and looks to me like the infection could be what in medical/nursing terms they call 'tracking' which means it is travelling along your finger which isn't good; if it is an infection you need to get it seen to asap you will probably be prescribed antibiotics and/or a topical ointment which may help to draw the infection/poison out of your thumb.
If all else fails, write your will before it's too late and have yourself a drink!!!!! lol
Regards
Tracy
