Hi,
Just wanted to say we are in exactly the same boat! our house is of a similar size to yours and in a lovely area, we also have a couple of buy to lets around the town, but my husband has been running his own business for 11 years now and the stress is really getting to him! We just want to change our lifestyle and live the simple life. It finished me off the other week when i was thinking of changing my audi for a smax to have more room for the kids, and a friend if mine said theres no way i could drive round in a ford after owning an audi! i am fed up of other peoples expectations and people including my family presuming we are loaded and not realising the stress we are living in! We will prob come out with just enough money to buy a smaller house in oz but we really fancy just taking home a wage and forgetting about work when we get home. Also the kids will not want for material things the same as these things dont seem to matter over there. Fingers crossed we will be going soon if like you we manage to sell the house!
Helen.

With respect the stress of living in Oz with lower wages and higher bills is making me depressed and stressed over here...if you have stress in the UK you will have it over here ...Oz is not a magic pill....honest.
And you are wrong about aussies not being materialistic...I would say they are more materialistic than Brits definatly.

Hi Kdal,

Thanks for the reply. I certainly know what you mean about running your own business and never being able to get home and shut the door and relax, as we run our own business also. However we will still be self employed in Oz, so for us (apart from more space) we're looking forward to doing more with our time off (the joy of being self employed for us is that we get more time off when we want it, but usually end up working late at night!).

Also, your confession has got me thinking.... I have to say that I too have deeper reasons for wanting to move. I have some very complictated family issues, which aren't neccasarily (can never spell that) driving me away, but are making it easier for me to go. I look forward to being thousands of miles away from my family. Missing them seems a much better option than having unspoken resentments boiling under the surface.

I wonder how many other people have 'family issues' that contribute to thier reasons for wanting to go? So many people on here talk about thier families so fondly, but i always wonder if they're that perfect then why leave them?

Meg
xx

Think I will change the title of this thread to

'This is My Life' LOL

Think that was a TV programme too , or was it 'This is your life'

Thanks Helen & Meg for your messages , sometimes things have to come out -
Better out than in, my Father-In-Law used to say , although think that was about something completely different LOL

See lost the plot completely now...

Hi Kdal, love the house. Sorry to hear about all your problems, but now is the time to put all this behind you and look forward to new beginnings when you move over to Adelaide. I wish you all the luck in the world on your house sale and your move.

Better out than in, i think it should be a life lesson as it applies to most things i think!

Kdal, would you mind if i started a new thread asking people about thier families, along the lines of what we've been talking about? Its just got me thinking.......it would be interesting to see how many other people have family issues that add to thier reasons for wanting to go.

Hi Jo, Thank you so much for your kind message it is really appreciated. I am not going to go to Adelaide though, my sister does live there and it is a beautiful place but we are on our way to Brisbane. You are right Jo and 'New beginnings' sort of rounds it up - thank you. Good luck to you too xx

Hi Megz, No dont mind at all, go ahead and get the thread going. x

bit of generalising going on there don't you think. not everyone has lower wages and higher bills and not everyone lives in an area where people are materialistic. the only people I know that are materialistic are my English friends. I recently renovated my house and my English friends wanted to know what make of this and that I had, the Australian friends didn't ask anything just said my renos were lovely.
