Having just been jumped on like a ton of bricks on a different thread. This will be my final say, for what it's worth anyway.
I'm with Aldo on this one. Yes ofc people should post their negatives about Australia. How else would people coming over here get a balanced outlook on it.
All that seems to happening now is different variations of the negative thread running.
I think Aldo is right in saying that there should be a different forum for negative posts.
Anybody who reconsiders their decision to move to the other side of the planet based on an internet forum needs their head read. Common sense first. Internet second.
Will the act of moving to Oz do any of the following:
1) Help relationship problems?
2) Help you lose weight?
3) Make the kids lose interest in videogames?
4) Turn you into a freeclimbing, kayak owning, beach running superstar?
5) Make you happy?
6) Take all those day to day problems like bills, long hours, crap social life etc and transform them?
7) Get you out of a rut?
8) Magically transform you from moaning faced old git to zen like karma warrior with a PhD in chilling out?
The answer to all of them is no. Obviously. You can change any of those things right now wherever you are if you just get off your arse and do it. Moving 12,000 miles won't make it any easier!
If you are moving here for less money, longer commutes, no friends, expensive property etc, then guess what? Chances are it'll be pretty tough, at least for a while, but it's still perfectly manageable if you go in with your eyes open and your brain switched on. If you are moving here for a whacking great pay rise, swanky place 5 mins from the centre of town, a few contacts and with a huge deposit, then guess what? It'll be a damn site easier, but you might still hate it. A four year old could tell you that.
Negative/positive....good/bad....pros/cons.
You HAVE to have a ballanced view, negative posts provide that. I am well aware that Oz isn't a rose garden as is my oh, we are aware that it isn't going to be easy.
The negative threads don't tell us anything new. As for people being put off going to Oz because of the threads then I would have to question their comitment in the 1st place, after all, you can't make a bigger life changing decision and the only place you can move to that's further away from 'home' is the moon so if a couple of negative comments put you off then you haven't thought about emigrating anywhere near enough.

I think moving here has got me out of a rut; stuck at home all day with three small kids, no job, hardly going out and seeing anybody. Here, I've had to make the effort to meet new people, as I've no family. Thing is, with much less amount of effort, I could have done it without moving thousands of miles. Easy to see that with hindsight!
I think the negative/realistic posts are valuable too, by the way!

I think there is a difference between negativity and realism. If people shy away from realism then they are going to be in trouble. If they interpret that as negativity then that is really their problem.
