I think It would be unfair to close this post. They are many people who love Oz and have hundreds of threads to post on...for the few who are unhappy here and waiting /trying to get back to Uk we need somewhere to vent.We are the people who posted on the forum before we came to Oz and we are also people who answer questions for the people coming over...its not much to ask for somewhere to post how we are feeling...and It is forewarned that its a negative post.
For all people coming over I really hope it works out...but some of us are here and not "living the dream" and it helps to know that people are in similar situations... seems all the negative posts seem to get closed for some reason...maybe people shouldn't get soooo defensive when god forbide they don;t agree that oz is fantastic.
The shopping hours here in Perth do my head in...I know it's different in other parts of Oz (and Perth-ites have the cheek to call Adelaide a backwater!). I miss my internet shopping and Sainsbury home delivery.
I quite agree. Its just like having a critic alongside helps to look at things in a different perspective. I am planning to come to OZ and make sure I visit this thread to prepare myself. I dont see any reason why we should close it. Infact, I would like to thanks everybody who is contributing and would like more comments.
HI,ANYONE KNOW WHICH AREA'S OF BRISBANE THE FLOODS WERE?TRACY.XX.
Are you talking about the floods of 1974?If so the people i work with tell me that the suburbs of newmarket, yeronga,St lucia(which is close to the river), and parts of Ipswich were the mainly affected areas.Newmarket is close to the place i work and is hard to imagine that it was underwater, must have been severe. Why do you ask? Do you live in one of the suburbs??I doubt that there will be another flood of that scale in the near future!
I think anyone who is thinking of changing their entire life and emigrating to Oz would be a bit of a berk not to do a serious amount of research beforehand.
I read the negatives and take it in. And I have to say I have learnt things I didn't know which could affect my life there. eg. it gets dark early. Possibly negative. Maybe not. Who knows as I don't live there yet, but at least I am prepared for it.
On the other hand my research has also taught me that Queensland (where I will be going) not only has gorgeous beaches and tropical rainforests, it also has beautiful green countryside not unlike here in the UK. This is positive as I do love the English countryside.
So I suppose I am agreeing with many that both negative and positive sides should be considered. Anyone not doing this should really have their perfect little bubble worlds burst and get with the programme.

You sound like a wise man saunders clan.Your research has served you well. The fact is it gets dark in a heartbeat over here, and thats it,blackness and time for bed because everyone else goes to bed at an incredibly early hour(9-30 is norm),due to the drought recently there is very little green pastures like the fields in the UK,trees dominate the pasture here and they creep into the houses in some suburbs!
But if you go to the outer suburbs where all the Brits go, then you'll find nice housing with a nice English neighbour, and to some people that's what is called "living the dream".
Are you saying that only men can be wise? I am a bird.
Just toying with you punky!
I am not going to Australia to live amongst Brits. Yes, yes I know there are lots of Brits in Australia and set to be lots more in the next few years. But if my neighbours originate from England, Australia, China, Thailand then so what. I do not intend to mix with English only. I will live my life however it takes me and make friends with whomever I bond with, as I do here.
I love the English countryside but it won't break my heart to leave it. Finding out that there is countryside similar in Oz is just a bonus.
I go to bed about 9 here anyway so I should fit in just fine! And once those doors shut in my house, let's face it I could be living anywhere in the world, so provided my homelife is OK then I just think I will be fine and dandy.
OK, a real important moan.......why am I paying over £4 a pint in some decent pubs and £5 a pint in nightclubs why is wine more expensive over here in clubs and restaurants than in the UK....eh
