What do you miss about the UK?

We are hoping to move over in December this year and while I have spent a year in oz, plus two hols of a month and a fortnight respectively and loved it, I am wondering what I will miss most about home....

I'm thinking so far:

Summer evenings when it's light until 10pm
Pubs (they're just not the same over there)
Proper cadburys chocolate
Fish and chips pommie style
Snowdrops and bluebells (god I sound like an idiot!)

But on the other hand I cant wait to not have to shop at Tesco, to go to the beach all the time, bbq's, to watch Chasers!!, not have to get soaked regularly on the way to work as it rains 99% of the time...

Anyone else miss / love anything in paticular?

Jaffa cakes and a decent pint of bitter. Also a TV programme without adverts every 3 minutes. Cheers, Quigley

yeah, I'll add bitter to my list, and extensive wine choice, seems to be more here than over there, understandably with how close we are to france.

I reckon clothes shopping is better over there, but maybe that's because I've always been on pounds and not on dollars!

I'll add family and friends and my dog to the list too.

Apart from family and friends of course.

Hedgerows that change with the season, delicate wildflowers, grass that is grass and not some rough alternative. Ground that "gives" when you walk on it. Variety of scenery within a few miles. History - castles, cathedrals, abbeys etc (how do you "capture" history???). People that look you in the eye and have a chat at the check out. Long summer evenings and cold winter nights in front of the fire. Christmas that is cold and christmassy so the carols actually make sense! Church bells on a Sunday. Pub grub.

That will do for starters!

Elizabeth Lilly is on a distinguished road
Hi, I've lived in Australia almost all my life. parents came here when I was a kid. There's one thing you can't put a price on about your own country, and that is belonging. No matter how long you live in another country it will never be yours, and you'll always be a newcomer, despite the timespan. Why is everyone leaving UK? I still miss it. all the best to you, Liz
